    Q
Is the 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend considered a "no mow" blend of fescue? We were recommended a "no mow fescue" by our landscaper for our slope for easy low maintenance ground cover and erosion control.
    A

No, the 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend is not considered no-mow fescue. It has gotten up to 8 inches before but it will get as tall as it needs to before it gets top-heavy and falls over.

    Q
Will 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend do well in Mustang, Oklahoma in a semi-shaded area?
I purchased 100 lbs for the front lawn.
    A

Oklahoma is located in the Transition Zone which means both warm and cool-season turfgrasses can thrive year-round. We would recommend contacting the local County Extension Office for their feedback on the success of tall fescue in your region. They can better advise on when the best time to overseed will be this fall and when to fertilize and also provide a soil analysis to tell you the pH and what nutrients the lawn has or needs.

    A
5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend can take up to 3 weeks to fully germinate depending on soil conditions, soil temperatures, and weather conditions. Fescue seed blends are produced each year over winter/early spring so they are available for the fall of that year.

  • Asked by Lindsay from Huntsville, Al
    03/01/2023
    Q
Would 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend grow well in North Alabama (Huntsville)?
    Bermuda struggling under crepe myrtles.
    A

While cool season grasses like the dwarf Tall Fescue in the 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend do tend to thrive in cooler areas and more shaded parts of the lawn, the grass seed still needs a minimum amount of sunlight per day to survive or grow. If the area where you are wanting grass to grow under the crepe myrtles doesn't get at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight or more during each day, then grass of most any species won't thrive. You also may need to get a soil test done in that area to see if the soil needs amendments or specific nutrients to allow grass to grow within the crepe myrtle trunk and dripline area. If the grass doesn't grow, you may need to consider an alternative ornamental ground cover or something like rock or mulch if you want the bare dirt covered.

  • Asked by John from Media Pa

    Q
    Good for a Pennsylvania lawn?
    A
The 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend is a popular choice for those in northern and transition areas of the US where cool season grasses would thrive. We would not be able to tell you if this is the best grass for your lawn as you would ideally want to speak to someone in your county or region to see if they feel that is the most appropriate seed for your yard. Your local Master Gardeners office can be contacted for help or a local turf company or nursery/sod farm may better be able to help you choose what grass will thrive in your lawn as well as help you see what it would look like growing. Sun and shade hours in the yard as well as slope/erosion and soil quality all impact what seed may need to be chosen or used. If a soil test has not been done recently, this can help you make sure the soil is at the proper pH and nutrient levels before seeding to ensure whatever seed you may apply has the best chance at thriving.

    Q
Will 5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend grow well in Atlanta, GA?
    A

5 Star Fescue Grass Seed Blend is a blend of fescue grasses that generally are more ideally suited to more northern states where cool season grasses thrive, but could potentially find success in the Atlanta, GA area.

We suggest reaching out to the master gardener at your local extension office for guidance on this specific grass blend and for other recommended grass types for your region, which would largely be warm-season grasses like Bermuda, Centipede, Zoysia and St. Augustine grasses.
