  • Asked by Douglas from Wichita Falls, Tx
    02/05/2018
    Q
Can I combine Surflan and 2-4,D in my sprayer?
Despite our weather being freezing overnight and barely up to 40 during the day I already have some weeds growing on my 6 acres of former farmland. I need to spray Surflan before it all sprouts int he next few weeks but can I add 2 4D as well to kill the current growers? We have over 100 trees mainly live oak, red oak, pine, pecan and pear trees. What do you recommend?
    A

Surflan Pro Herbicide can be tank mixed if you follow directions completely from the product label. We do not recommend using Surflan Pro Herbicide on edibles even if the fruits and/or vegetables have been cleared. It is only labeled for non-bearing fruit and nut trees.

  • Asked by Tim from Lancaster, Pa
    10/04/2016
    Q
What happens when you apply Surflan Pro Herbicide to cold season turf?
This product is used for warm season turf but what happens if I used it in Pennsylvania to cold season turf? Less effective but still works?
    A

Surflan Pro Herbicide will harm cool season turf per the label; it could potentially damage these grasses or prevent them from growing.

We would recommend using Prodiamine 65 WDG. It is a very good pre-emergent product that is safe for use on all established turf types. Also, please check out our Cool Season Lawn Schedule for information on when to use products.

  • Asked by Ernie from Tempe, Az
    04/09/2016
    Q
Is Surflan Pro Herbicide the brand name product or generic version?
In the product reviews, one person stated: Works as advertised and much cheaper than the original - So will I be getting the brand name or a generic version of Surflan when I purchase
    A

We sell both the name brand Surflan AS Herbicide made by United Phosphorous, Inc. and a generic - or post-patent - version made by Agrisel.  You can browse all the products we sell that contain the active ingredient Oryzalin here. The formulation from Agrisel does come in several sizes for convenience, while many name-brand professional herbicides will only come in larger sizes, such as 2.5 Gallons.

  • Asked by Bob from Madison, Al
    05/19/2014
    Q
What is mixing rate for Surflan Pro?
    A
You will need to use 3 fl oz of Surflan Pro per 1-2 gallons of water for 1,000 sq ft. The water in this case is just a carrier and you need to use enough water to make sure you get even coverage and to make sure you are getting the correct amount of product over the 1,000 sq ft area. There are directions on page 7 of the Surflan Pro product label that explains how to properly calibrate your sprayer.

  • Asked by Bill from Colleyville Tx
    08/19/2019
    Q
Which pre-emergents are safe to use under trees?
I have been told that some preemergents are dangerous to use under trees. Which premergents are safe to use on St augustine under my trees (mostly Oaks)
    A

You can use most pre-emergent herbicides that are safe for turfgrass such as St. Augustine around established trees such as oak trees. Surflan Pro is popular for use around ornamental plants and on warm-season turf like St. Augustine. Hi-Yield Weed and Grass Stopper with Dimension is a great choice for a granule for spring application. If you would like to provide us with more information about the weeds you are targeting how much area you are covering, then we can offer other recommendations.

  • Asked by Conor from Chicago, Illinois
    02/01/2012
    Q
Can Surflan be used on lawns in central Illinois? - Cool season grasses such as Kentucky Bluegrass?
    A
Surflan Pro is specifically formulated for warm season grasses and is not labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass. We do carry several products that are labeled for use on Kentucky Bluegrass such as Dimension 2EW, Gallery 75 DF and Tupersan 50 WP. When selecting a product we recommend that you read product label (product labels are available on each individual product page under the picture of the product) to be sure that Kentucky Bluegrass is listed as a tolerant grass species. You also want to verify that the weed(s) you are trying to eliminate are listed on the label. Last, be sure to note whether the product is a pre-emergent or a post-emergent/selective herbicide (this will be listed on the individual product page in the product description box and also on the product label).

    Q
What is the waiting period after application of Surflan Pro before plowing the ground for peas?
    A

Surflan Pro Herbicide (Oryzalin 40.4%) is not labeled to be used in any area where crops are going to be planted.  It would be recommended to wait 1 year before planting anything edible in an area it was applied to.  We do carry the Monterey Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder which is the only pre-emergent we carry labeled to be used around vegetables as directed on the product label.
