Suspend SC Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Both the Suspend SC and the Talstar P contain synthetic pyrethroids for active ingredients and will provide very similar results. The only advantage to using Talstar P over Suspend SC is that it is known to be super gentle on most plants (do not use on edible vegetation) and is virtually odorless while Suspend Sc does have a slight odor. Both products can be used indoors and outdoors and both products are safe to use in houses with children and pets.

Suspend SC would be a great product for you to use for the spiders and the ants on your property. It can be used in your yard, around the perimeter of your home and also inside your home when needed and it is safe for use around pets. Since grubs live underground they must be treated with a product that will target them where they live. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region.

Suspend SC is not a non-repellent product, so during the initial application insects could potentially detect the product. However as the product dries to the surface it will become less noticeable to insects in general and they will continue to walk over the treat surface. If you are looking for an outdoor home foundation spray that is a non-repellent you could go with a product like Termidor SC or Dominion 2L, both of which work very well for carpenter ants as well as other pests. 

If you are looking for a product as a contact kill spray that is safe for crevices and open air spaces of the home you can use a product like Microcare Aerosol. For a residual product to use along crevices, windows, and baseboards you could apply a product like Gentrol Complete which will last for at least several weeks on the surface continuing to kill anything that crawls over or lands on the treated surfaces. You will want to determine what species of gnat you have in the home so you can locate and eliminate the breeding site and source of it in your home. 

It sounds like the beetles were either re-introduced to the home or there was some larvae that are just now emerging. You can likely do another spray with the Suspend and Gentrol and get control over what is left. While you could try the beetle pheromone traps the vacuuming, cleaning and spraying of the residual insecticides will be the most effect. Suspend SC will kill a termite if you physically spray the Suspend SC onto a termite.  However, it is not considered a termite treatment product.  Termites eat wood from the inside out, so they are not out in the open to treat.  Also, termites do not crawl on top of the ground like other insects, they enter the home from under the ground.  So just by spraying around your home on top of the ground and on your home, will not protect it against termites.  For proper termite protection, we recommend doing a termite treatment with Dominion 2L.  You should also read our "How to Do a Termite Treatment" article.

Suspend SC is not labeled for any type of mange mites and may not give you with the results you are looking for, nor is is labeled for use on furniture where people would sit.  In fact, for the few mites Suspend SC is labeled for the product label makes a point to tell you that it is for suppression only.  In almost all mange infestations, you should treat the infected animal with products given to you by your veterinarian.  All of the animals bedding should be washed with Borax (read the product label and be sure it is labeled for use on laundry) and dried or discarded all together to avoid re-infestation.  If the animal has been sleeping or resting on your couch or other furniture, you should thoroughly vacuum and perhaps even steam clean the furniture.  Some people find relief by using diatomaceous earth under and around furniture, under furniture cushions and in the tucks, seams, folds, cracks and crevices of the furniture.

Suspend SC is labeled for ants. Gentrol IGR is not labeled for ants. Getting rid of ants can be tough because of their opportunistic nature. Most species are able to nest indoors and outdoors in a wide variety of places and they can survive on a wide variety of food sources. To effectively get rid of ants you usually need to include proper indoor and outdoor sanitation as well as an actual pesticide treatment which includes a mixture of baiting and spraying.
