    Q
We have a sun conure (bird) in the house. How safe is Talstar P to use around him?
We will be spraying the room he is in. We know he has to be removed when we spray, but how long before we can bring him back to that room safely.
    A
Talstar P is very safe to use around children and pets once it is dry.  You are correct that you should remove the bird and any other animals and children from the room while you are performing the treatment.  Once the treatment is dry, which usually takes about 45 minutes, it is perfectly safe to place the bird and other pets back into the room.

    Q
My questions are regarding Talstar. What are the health concerns of spray getting into the swimming pool?
Also, why did an answer say it was safe to spray on food handling areas, but not on seats in car? What are the concerns of spraying Talstar around AC units outside a house that are currently in operation? Do you feel that Pressure Washing furniture will remove Talstar residue, and do you think the residue (although colorless and odorless) is harmful?
    A
You should avoid getting Talstar P into swimming pools though small amounts that accidentally get in a pool will be so diluted that there shouldn't be any concern. Talstar P is labeled to be used in food handling establishments and food handling areas but all of the food prep surfaces and food products and utensils must be covered and the application must be kept to cracks and crevices only. Talstar P is only labeled for use in cracks and crevices when using indoors which is why we would have said no to spraying on the surface of a seat (Talstar P is not labeled to spray on any furniture in general). If you choose to spray around or on your A/C unit you should shut it off prior to the application and resume operation after the application is dry. You should not spray the surface of your lawn furniture with Talstar P (or any other insecticide). If the surface has already been sprayed you should thoroughly wash it with soap and copious amounts of water. When used as directed on the Talstar P product label this product  and the dry residual it leaves behind is safe for people and pets.

    Q
How many gallons of finished product can i get from a 3/4 gallon bottle of concentrate?
    A
Talstar typically is mixed at 1 ounce per gallon of water.  A 3/4 gallon jug is 96 ounces, so you could get 96 gallons of finished solution from one 3/4 gallon jug if you mixed at the normal rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water.

    Q
What can I use for general pest control outside around my foundation? I see ants, spiders and roaches.
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.

    Q
What should I use on pine beetles infestation? I have infestation in a lot of trees?
    A

Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Talstar. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    Q
Will Talstar P work well in a 30gal sprayer? and with granules?
I see where it says to use a 1gal sprayer but will it work as well in larger sprayers? Also is it safe to use the concentrate and the granules at the same time or is that to high a concentration?
    A
You can absolutely use Talstar P in a large 30 gallon sprayer. Just be sure you follow the correct usage rate for that much water. Talstar granules should be applied using a hand spreader or cart spreader and can be used in conjunction with the Talstar P.

    Q
    Is Talstar P really working?
I purchased the Talstar P product and mixed it by instruction/video provided. Although, I spray the product directly on a plant infested by aphids and they just laugh at me and continue on their business. Am I missing something?
    A
Talstar does not offer an instant knockdown but it does offer a long term residual. Talstar can take several hours to kill insects when used as directed on the product label.

  • Asked by Robin from Atlanta, Ga
    06/18/2012
    Q
Which product(s) would you recommend to kill mosquitos, ants, roaches, biting gnats (or flies) outdoors?
Note: I have a sink hole in backyard with damp leaves, pinestraw, etc., and filling it in with dirt hasn't worked b/c it keeps settling over time. Also, I have gutter covers and know there is breeding there as well, but I cannot get into gutters to clear a few clumps of debris, so I'm wondering if there is a solution for that problem too? THANK YOU!
    A
Talstar P would be a great product for the mosquitoes, ants, roaches and gnats. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a sprayer.  You will need about 1 fl oz of product diluted into 1 gallon of water for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out. Talstar P can also be applied to your lawn, exterior of your home for barrier insect control and indoors to control current infestations. Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. If you don't find a way to alleviate the moisture in the sink hole and in the gutters you will have a constant influx of new mosquitoes and gnats. While Talstar P may help limit their numbers you will keep seeing these pests.

    Q
Is Talstar safe around my orchids when I spray?
    A
Talstar P is safe for use on most plants. Having said that we still recommend you test the product on just one or two plants before using it on all of the plants to test for damage as some plants can be more sensitive than others.

  • Asked by Steve from Swampscott Ma

    Q
Can I use talstar p on rugs for fleas?
I already bought it from you then I saw a Q and A and you guys stated you don't want us to use it because it's a crack and crevice treatment. No good on rugs? Well i already bought it and the directions say it works for fleas. What do think? Can I mix it with precor?
    A

You can mix Talstar P with Precor IGR for flea control. According to the new Talstar P product label you can make applications as spot or crack and crevice treatments to areas frequented by pets, such as under bedding, rugs, next to furniture. Vacuum prior to treatment.

What this means is that you cannot broadcast spray your entire carpet with Talstar, you must limit the treatment to "spot" treatments (areas that 2ft x 2ft or less). If you only need to spot treat certain areas you can use Talstar for fleas. If you need to broadcast over entire carpeted rooms you should choose a product which is labeled for indoor broadcast sprays such as Onslaught or Permethrin SFR.

    Q
What can I do about a ladybug infestation already inside my home?
    A
Talstar P applications to cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room, door frames, window frames and other areas where you see ladybugs emerging will help. You can also use a Fly Web light  to capture these nuisance insects as they seem to be attracted to light as well.

    Q
Is there a way to spray for mosquito without having to use a mister or fogger that is still just as effective?
In other words will a regular hand sprayer work and what chemical should I use.
    A

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  It is also very good for bees and wasps, however you would not want to apply it or any other product directly to play sets where children will touch treated surfaces.  Also, Talstar is labeled for over 100 different insects and will work in just about any situation.

    Q
What should be used around pond/lake areas to kill mosquitos?
    A
Essentria IC3 is the product of choice when you need to treat for mosquitoes around a body of water.  Essentria IC3 is a flexible, broad-spectrum EPA FIFRA 25(b) exempt product and is organic compliant.  This means it is a very safe insecticide for use around your family and pets, but still very effective.  One of the best features of Essentria IC3 is that it has no aquatic toxicity.  This means you can apply near or over water for spiders, mosquitoes and other water dwelling pests with no worries about harming aquatic life.

Filling measuring reservoir on Talstar P 3/4 gallon bottle
I've used the quart-size Talstar P container and now have the 3/4 gallon bottle of Talstar P. How do I fill the measuring reservoir on the larger bottle? Do I squeeze, tip the bottle, or?
    A
The 3/4 gallon of Talstar comes with a tip and pour measuring device. This means that you simply tip the bottle towards the measuring device and fill to the correct line for your usage.

    Q
Moth are coming out of the paver gaps from time to time. What treatment works here?
I have an outside covered screened patio and the floor is paved with concrete pavers. The gaps of the pavers are filled with sand. The area is about 400 sqft. Obviously some cat hairs found the way into the gaps.
    A
To control sand moths/flies, you first want to remove all organic material the area. Next you want to apply a residual insecticide such as Talstar P. Talstar is odorless, dries clear, leaves no stains, is non-irritating to the skin, and won't break down easily with rainfall.
