    Q
Rid mosquitos in wooded wetland area
I live in NH. what is the best product and why to apply it around my property. I have wetlands on two sides of my yard. Thanks
    A
Talstar P is one of the most popular mosquito control products on the market. Talstar P will last for about one month outdoors for mosquito control, is gentle on the plants that must be sprayed, has no odor, is water based so it doesn't stain and is very safe to use around children and pets when used as directed on the product label. You will need about 1 oz of product for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. Care must be taken not to get Talstar into any body of water as it is known to be toxic to aquatic life. If you feel that keeping it out of the water may be too difficult we also carry Essentria IC3 which is labeled for mosquito control and is non-toxic to aquatic life.

    Q
How to use Cyonara 9.7 for outdoor mosquito control?
I have been using Flit 10EC for mosquito control, mixing about 8 oz per gallon of water. In mid morning or afternoon, once mosquitoes have retreated to the shade of the foliage, I'll spray on, in and under our evergreens and deciduous bushes, as well as spraying the foliage on the edge of our property as a repellent. We are bordered by forest and about 1/2 mile from mosquito heaven (water and designated wetland). We have had a very wet spring and summer in Chicago. The Flit has done pretty well- especially compared to our neighbors- but I'd like something better, and I am using about 12 gallons of mix per treatment. So would you recommend the Cyonara for my purpose and at what concentrate/water ratio? Does the Cyonara have a longer residual than permethrin? Can I use it as a residual/repellent for wasps/yellow jackets on wooden and plastic play sets (they now need regular monitoring for new nests).
    A

Talstar P is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  It is also very good for bees and wasps, however you would not want to apply it or any other product directly to play sets where children will touch treated surfaces.  Also, Talstar P is labeled for over 100 different insects and will work in just about any situation.

    Q
    How to properly spray 3100sf
I am going to spray Talstar P on 3100sf my backyard. My question is I need to mix the 1oz per gallon of water do I need to spray all of that with my sprayer or can I use a Waterhouse attachment to spray. Using a water hose sprayer attachement I feel like it will be to diluted with mixing the 1oz with water prior to spraying with the water hose attachment. I hope this makes sense thank you
    A

You should caliberate your sprayer to disperse 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft.

Yes, Talstar P (Talstar One) can be broadcast across your lawn, sprayed on ornamentals, trees, flowers, etc. It should not be sprayed on edibles. You will use 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
What is the best systemic insecticide to use for bagworms on my leyland cypress?
My trees are still growing and already too high to pick off the bags and get to the top with my hose end sprayer; I'm looking into a systemic insecticide to treat them
    A
We cannot find any systemic insecticides that are labeled for bagworm control. Acephate 75 was labeled for bagworm control but due to new EPA regulations they were forced to change the label and exclude using the product as a systemic. You should also note that systemic products are not the best choice if you already have damaging pests present because the products can take weeks or even months to translocate through large trees from soil applications. The best treatment for bagworms is a direct foliar spray with Talstar

    Q
Can I pour Talstar around a tree to try and poison the pests within?
I have seen signs of the emerald ash borer on our property. Now I also am seeing signs of the asian longhorn beetle in our maple and pine trees. If I pour this around the tree and the tree drinks it up will it then kill these pests as they eat the wood from the inside? I have never seen these bugs on the outside of the tree but the signs of the asian longhorn beetle are hard to miss.
    A
Talstar P will not work as a systemic insecticide and will not eliminate insects inside the tree. You will need to purchase a product that contains imidacloprid such as Merit 75 WSP, Adonis 75 WSP, Adonis 2F, Dominion 2L, Criterion 75 WSP and Fertilome Tree and Shrub Systemic. Each of these products will work systemically to help treat for Emerald Ash Borers and Asian Long Horned Beetles but the application and usage rate will vary so you should read the product label of the product you are considering and make sure you are comfortable with the application before purchasing. Systemic products can take several weeks to translocate through a plant. Trees that have not been infested with these beetles can be protected with topical bark sprays like the Talstar P. We recommend you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener or entomologist on staff to find out when the best time to apply a systemic and/or a bark spray would be as this varies from region to region. Heavily infested trees may need to be taken down and chipped or burned to help save the neighboring trees.

    Q
An hour after spraying Talstar P Professional outdoors, my sprinklers turned on for a few minutes. Do I need to respray?
I sprayed the back of my house and the lawn to get rid of clover mites. About an hour later my sprinkler system malfunctioned and there was water going in half the yard for about 3-5 minutes. Do I need to respray the yard again?
    A

If the application of Talstar P Professional Insecticide had time to dry before the sprinklers went off, it should be ok. If you applied at the highest rate of 1 fl oz per gallon of water, you will need to wait 30 days before reapplying or 7 days if applied at the lower 0.5 fl oz per gallon rate was used.

The product label advises to apply when there is no rain or watering for atleast 24 hours after the application.

    Q
How does Talstar P effct the butterfy and bee populations? (nectar insects).
I have an eight bed perennial garden with many flowers, roses, bushes and a rose garden. I do not want to kill off butterflies (and their larva), bees and other nectar-seeking insects, as well as the Monarch butterfly and it's larva.
    A
Talstar P (Talstar One) can be toxic to beneficial insects. We advise that you make the application when the plants are not pollinating.

    Q
I live in CA and I have roaches, earwigs and some spiders.
I'm looking for a good all around spray to use on the outside of the house and perimeter of the yard. I do have dogs that can be put indoors for a short time to do the spray and let it dry. Also, I have small kids with lots of toys and swing in yard.
    A
We would recommend that you treat in and out of your home with Talstar. It can be applied along the baseboards inside once every three months and outside monthly. You will mix 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. It is labeled to treat roaches, earwigs, spiders and many more. It is safe for children and pets when dry. We do not recommend spraying the outdoor toys and swings that the children play with.

    Q
    Talstar for Carpet Beetle
I have a carpet beetle problem in my basement. I have use Talstar outside, but have never used it in my house. The carpet beetles seems to be contained in the basement, part of the basement is carpeted - part is not. Is talstar safe to use on the carpet - I have tried other dusts applied topically to the carpet but they are still there.
    A
While the product will not hurt the carpet, Talstar P is not labeled to be broadcast sprayed over carpeted areas for carpet beetle control. Talstar P can only be used as a crack and crevice application indoors. For indoor carpet beetle control you may want to consider a product such as Nyguard Plus. This product contains an insecticide to kill the roaming adults and an insect growth regulator to stop the harder to kill immature beetles from reaching a reproductive state which in turn will break the cycle of infestation. As an added bonus this product also contains a deodorizer for carpet applications.
