    Q
Can you spray Talstar P on the couch? It appears that our dog brought ticks into the house and we are finding them in one room around a couch.
I realize now that I need to spray an IGR (just ordered Archer) and have read that it is okay to spray the IGR on the couch. If I mix the Archer IGR with the Talstar P, can that still be sprayed on the couch, or just an IGR mixture?
    A

Talstar P CANNOT be applied to anything that you will come into prolonged skin contact with, so you cannot apply it to furniture.  It should be applied to cracks and crevices and perimeter of the rooms only.  For treating sensitive areas like your furniture, you should use Steri-Fab which is labeled for ticks and fleas as well as many other pests and can be applied to furniture, mattresses, pet beds, and all other sensitive areas. Below is a great article on treating indoors and the products that we would recommend for treatment inside the home for fleas and/or ticks.

    Q
Can I mix Talstar P with dawn soap for boxelder bugs?
The dawn soap will breakdown the hard shell of the bugs body and then the Talstar P will kill them
    A

Talstar P will do a great job for boxelder bugs! We do not recommend that you use soap with the Talstar P or any other insecticides. The Talstar P may be used to spray directly on the plant foliage and it can be used inside and outside of the home. Please take a moment to look at our "How to Get Rid of Boxelder Bugs" article for more detailed information about this type of pest.

    Q
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). What's the best and safest product to use?
I have termites in my flower bed ( in the ground). They already killed a few of my roses. I thought they eat only dead wood but I have found them around the roots and on the dry part of the rose steam next to the ground. What's the best and safest product to use? I am not worried about the house- it's steal framed and break.
    A
Normally termites to not eat anything that is alive and healthy so while there may be some in the ground around your flower beds, there could be something else actually destroying your plant like root aphids or the like. That being said, you use use a product like Talstar P to soak the ground around the flower beds to eliminate any termites and most other pests in that soil and it will not harm your flowers. Talstar is a concentrate that would be mixed at the rate of 1 oz to 1 gallon of water and poured as a drench on the soil where you have the activity.

    Q
Which product should I use to treat sod webworms in saint-augustine grass?
I live in Texas, south of Houston (Angleton Tx. 77515). Which one of these two products ( new Cyonara for Lawns or Talstar P) will work the best to treat my lawn to get rid of the sod webworms? Will I need to treat it a second time after a certain time frame?
    A
The most popular product for sod webworms is Talstar. Talstar is very effective on most insects and it is gentle to plants. Time applications to control young larvae, if possible. Spot treatments may be applied when infestations are first detected and the damaged area is small. The treatment will be most effective if applied in the early evening when larvae begin feeding. Please check with your local cooperative extension office to see if a second generation is possible in one season in your region.

    Q
Talstar P- When to spray and what to wear?
When is the optimal time to spray Talstar P and do I need to wear a respirator when applying the product? Also, How long does it take to dry?
    A
You should wear long sleeves, long pants and socks and shoes when using Talstar P. If you are sensitive you may also consider wearing gloves. A respirator should be used if you are spraying in non-vented areas. You can spray anytime though we do recommend you avoid spraying plants during the sunniest parts of the day because the liquid can magnify the sunlight and cause scorching. Talstar P is water based and will take as long as water would take to dry on any surface, usually about an hour or two.

    Q
Why is Talstar P (Talstar One) killing everything but gnats?
    A

Talstar P (Talstar One) is labeled for gnat control. Be sure you are mixing at 1oz per gallon water. Are you seeing them indoors? If so, be sure to take any indoor plants out and let them dry. If having an issue outdoors, be sure you are focusing on areas that contain moisture and/or shade. Also, undersides of leaves on non-edible trees and shrubs. Keep in mind that part of the difficulty in handling flying insects is that you are relying on them to land on areas treated with the insecticide.

    Q
Can I apply Talstar after Conserve treatment for gypsy moth caterpillars?
My landscaper applied "Conserve" to kill gypsy moth caterpillars but my tree expert told me that Talstar is better, can Talstar be applied after Conserve? I know that they work by different mechanisms.
    A

Conserve SC is a great product for treating caterpillars since it is a targeted application and is very gentle on the plants and on other non-target insects and animals. If you are going to do a follow up treatment using Talstar, then I would wait at least 1-2 weeks so that you are not wasting the Conserve application since you don’t need both products at the same time.

    Q
How do you get rid of blind mosquitoes?
My parents live in Florida and they have a real problem there.
    A

A product like Talstar P can be used to control midges (another term for blind mosquitoes) outdoors.  You can spray window screens, doors, bushes, and plants around the home to help keep midges away.  An aerosol pyrethrin spray such as 565 Plus or Microcare can be used to control midges inside the home.

Can I spray my horse's fly sheets with Talstar in the evenings to protect them from mosquitos? I understand I'd have to let it dry before putting them on the horse.

Talstar is not labeled for clothing and therefore would not be safe for application to the sheets.
