    Q
How do I mix Talstar in a mister for mosquito control?
I am wanting to treat a one acre lawn for mosquitoes. I dont see the application rate for a mister it shows .33 to 1 ounce per gallon per 1,000 square feet. that would be over 43.5 gallon for one acre...i would need to refill about 12.5 times..that seems to be a lot of material for one acre from a backpack mister/blower.
    A
The application usage rate that you noted in your question is correct for mosquito control. Most folks do not treat the entire acre but instead choose to treat in the areas where the mosquitoes will actually make contact with a treated area. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

    Q
3 months ago I treated for whitefly on ficus hedges. I have just treated them again but they are infested still
    A
If you are using a systemic product to treat it can take up to 8 weeks for the product to be translocated throughout the plant.  We recommend while that is working and if you have an active infestation that you spray the foiliage with something like Talstar P that will start killing after applied.  It is important to spray the underside of the leaves on infested plants for effective control. Heavily infested leaves should be plucked off the plant and tossed in a bucket of soapy water.

    Q
Japanese beetles are eating almost everything in my yard. What can I use that will be safe for my flowers?
They are also eating my flowering crab trees, oak trees and just about every tree in the area. Where do they come from and how can I safely rid my yard of these things? I have 3 Japanese Beetle bags out and they are each about 2 to 3 inches full of bugs, but they are everywhere. I have sprayed a 3 in 1 Systemic on my Rose bushes and flowers around the house and they are back in just a few days. Tonight, I counted over 200 hundred of them on a combination of trees and bushes in my yard. I spray the bugs with a Dawn dish soap and water mixture in between the Systemic spray, but I can't get ahead of them. HELP !!!
    A
We would recommend Talstar P.  It is a insecticide that is labeled for lawn and ornamentals and is safe for plants, bushes, shrubs and trees.  You can also apply it inside and outside your home for insects that try to enter the house.  You would not want to apply Talstar P on any garden vegetables or something you are going to eat.  TalstarP will provide a 30 day residual on the plants that you spray and should provide relief against the Japanese beetles.

    Q
What is the best product to use for a millipede infestation?
    A
Millipedes are usually going to be present when there is a lot of moisture in the area. If you have a lot of mulch near your house you may want to consider raking it back at least six inches away from the house. Also trimming bushes so that you can see the soil beneath them and so they do not touch the house will help reduce soil moisture and stop the insects from gaining access to the house via the bushes.  Talstar P would be a great choice for this pest.  You would apply around the outside perimeter of the home (especially under and around eaves, decks, patios, and window shutters), and inside along baseboards, in cracks and crevices, and other potential millipede harborages. We have also written an article with other tips that may help you with millipede control : Get Rid of Millipedes

    Q
need help getting rid of springtails - investation in home
    A
Spring tails can be tough to eliminate because they reproduce very quickly. In almost every case where people have spring tails they also have a moisture problem such as a leaking or sweating pipe, poor ventilation in their crawl space, lots of wet mulch right up next to their house, etc. You must locate and correct the moisture problem to get rid of the spring tails, insecticides alone will not do the job. We do carry Talstar P for indoor and outdoor control which can help you to reduce the numbers of springtails. For indoor control be sure to spray along the baseboards, window frames, door frames, piping like under the bathroom and kitchen sink, etc. As for outdoor control you should spray 2 to 3 feet up the side of the house and 2 to 3 feet out on the ground. If you have mulch close to the foundation wall rake the mulch back away from the house and spray Talstar P under and over top the mulch. That will give you a 4 to 6 foot barrier around the exterior of your house. If you are on a crawlspace be sure to inspect that area for any moisture issues and spray accordingly.
