    Q
How should I use Talstar to get rid of millipedes?
I bought Talstar P (Talstar One) to get rid of millipedes. The millipedes are around my garage doors on both my garages and they are slowly getting into my home. I have used this product per the directions, but it hasn't made a difference. It kills the ones I can see, but the next day more are back. I have not only sprayed the perimeter of my house/garages, but all the cracks in the concrete. what am I doing wrong?
    A
What concentration are you using? We recommend using the highest rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water for millipedes. Also, insects do not die as soon as they touch Talstar P. It takes time for them to actually die after coming in contact with the dry residual. You need to give the product time to work. Millipedes are going to be in areas that have a lot of moisture, so finding a way to get rid of some of the moisture will be helpful too. If you have mulch around your house you need to make sure you rake it back at least 6 inches from the base of the house and turn the mulch frequently.

    Q
What mix do you recommend for mosquitoes?
I am currently using Talstar/Nyguard but not as effective as it was
    A

The mixing ratio for mosquitoes is 1 fl oz per gallon of water. The key is to apply the Talstar P it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day. Talstar P should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. Please see our Mosquito Treatment Guide for more tips.

    Q
Is there a way to spray for mosquito without having to use a mister or fogger that is still just as effective?
In other words will a regular hand sprayer work and what chemical should I use.
    A

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  It is also very good for bees and wasps, however you would not want to apply it or any other product directly to play sets where children will touch treated surfaces.  Also, Talstar is labeled for over 100 different insects and will work in just about any situation.

    Q
In Virginia and want to spray the entire yard this summer for mosquitos and ticks.
In Virginia, the newspapers are predicting a very bad season for ticks and mosquitos. I would like to spray the entire backyard (trees, shrubs, and lawn) with permethrin in an Ortho Sprayette, connected to a garden hose. Can you tell me if this is the best product to use and, if so, what are the mixing instructions? Thanks!
    A
Permethrin is not labeled for outdoor mosquito control. We would recommend using Talstar P for tick and mosquito control in your yard. Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control and tick control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief from mosquitoes and to all the tall vegetation and other known tick harboring locations.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves of plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where pests like to hang out. Talstar P should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

    Q
What do I buy to get rid of cluster flies?
    A
Talstar P can be used to help control cluster flies indoors and outdoors. If the cluster flies have already made their way indoors they will be harder to control because they usually hide in a wall void or other inaccessible area and are only visible when the house warms up. If the cluster flies are in an attic or drop ceiling or other dark area, a fly light would do a great job controlling the population. Using small fly lights such as the FlyWeb Fly Light in the house would also help to catch the flies. Spray Talstar directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.

    Q
What can be used to kill ant colony in a container plant that will not harm the plant? Perhaps a soil drench?
    A

We would suggest treating the potted plant with Talstar P for ant control. Mix rate would be 0.5 to 1.0 fl oz per gallon of water. You can treat the soil and foliage of the plant.
