Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Talstar P should be mixed at 1 fl oz per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft. We have never experienced an application taking 3 hours on a 100 X 10 or 50 X 20 area using a mist blower. Talstar P would be a good choice for grasshopper control. You should start applications before the grasshoppers have a chance to hatch for best control. You should thoroughly spray your lawn and water in the application with about a .25 in of water to help the product get past the thatch layer and into the soil where grass hoppers actually develop. If you already have grasshoppers you can use Talstar P at the highest usage rate of 1 oz of product per 1 gallon of water for the quickest knockdown. Use sufficient amounts of water to help the product get to the soil layers. Once the Talstar has dried it will be completely safe for the cats to resume their normal activity in the areas that have been treated. 

The selection of the proper product would depend on several different factors. What type of insects are your main concern? Are you doing clean outs or just preventative treatments? What state are you in? Do you need an immediate knockdown or residual control or both? Most professionals would not limit themselves to just one or two products because their clients will have very different needs. We will say that Talstar P is one of the most popular products on the market for indoor use because it dries clear, does not have an odor and has a very broad label and works well for a general insecticide.

We do not carry or distribute the in wall systems so we cannot advise what to use.  We do know that most of those systems require a pressurized piece of equipment to properly treat the lines which most homeowners do not have.  We will say that the downside to those systems is that they do not prevent pests from entering your home since the bugs have to come inside the walls to come into contact with anything.  It is a much better approach to treat the exterior of your home with a professional product like Talstar P every 3 months which keep insects out of your home in the first place.  And all you need is a hand pump sprayer, not a specialized piece of equipment.

It all depends on the insect that is walking over the area treated with Talstar P, but most will die rather quickly, which means within 20 to 30 minutes to a few hours.  Larger insects can take longer, such as roaches, scorpions, and spiders can take a day or two sometimes.  Definitely not 7 to 10 days.  Most pest control companies say this however for a few reasons.  They want to make sure that you give it time to work and also they do not want  you calling the following day because you see an insect.  They want to give it time to work.

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is labeled for over 75 different pests, can be used indoors and outdoors, and is pet safe if used as directed.  

Most insecticides like Talstar P and herbicides such as 2,4-D, are able to be tank mixed together, just make sure you follow each product label instructions for "tank mixing" instructions. 

 

Talstar P is labeled for whiteflies and is one of the most popular products on the market for this pest. Be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves on the infested plants as that is where whiteflies like to harbor.

Talstar P would be a good choice for Zimmerman Pine Moth control. Most treatments for Zimmerman Pine Moths should be done mid April - August (depending on your region) to eliminate active larvae on the tree trunk before they enter the tree.

Talstar P does work for spider mites and can be used on most non-edible plants. We do recommend that you spray a small portion of one of the plants and then wait a couple of days to make sure there is no damage before proceeding with the treatment.
