Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

You should use Talstar P (Talstar One) within 24 hours of  mixing.

Talstar P will midges and mosquitos that contact a treated surface long enough to receive a lethal dose.  It will dry clear and will not harm pait or surfaces when used as directed on the product label.

Talstar P is an insecticide only, it is not an IGR nor does it contain an IGR. Talstar is not really a great choice for indoor flea control because it can not be broadcast sprayed over floors where the fleas tend to harbor. For indoor control you can use Ultracide comes ready to use, no mixing or equipment is needed and it contains both an insecticide for a quick knock down of biting adults and an insect growth regulator (IGR) for control of developing flea eggs and larvae. Infested areas should be thoroughly vacuumed prior to product applications to help remove as much flea eggs, larvae and debris as possible and also to help stimulate larvae to change stages and come into contact with the product. You should continue to vacuum at least every other day for the next two weeks.

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests.

We make product recommendations based on the type of of area that is being sprayed and also the type of pest that needs to be eliminated. We would need more specific information to be able to tell you why we made the recommendation that we made in that Q&A. We can tell you that for termites and ants in outdoor situations on or close to a structure we almost always recommend Termidor. Termidor has a different active ingredient than Talstar and this active ingredient allows the ants or termites to pick the product up on their bodies and move it back to the nest and spread it to the other insects. Talstar on the other hand will only kill the insects that come into direct contact with treated surfaces. You mentioned four very different pests in your question. Spiders and crickets can be controlled using Talstar P. Talstar P is a great general use insecticide that can be applied indoors and outdoors to help get rid of and prevent most crawling insects. Fruit flies and pantry moths on the other hand will require you to locate the source of the infestation to get rid of the pests. We do have fruit fly traps as well as pantry moth traps but these traps are meant for monitoring purposes and will not get rid of the entire infestation. You would not want to mix IC3 with Talstar. IC3 could make Talstar have a repellency to it that you do not want. You want the insect to travel through the treated areas and kill them.
