    Q
Can I use a two gallon sprayer to apply Talstar One?
    A
Yes, you can use any size sprayer to apply Talstar.  You typically mix 1 ounce per gallon of water, so if you are using a 2 gallon sprayer and going to fill it all of the way, then you would mix 2 ounces with the 2 gallons of water.

    Q
Why would you recommend Termidor Sc over Talstar P if they are both supposed to have a long residual?
You mention in one of the Q&A that you recommend Termidor over Talstar, but in the product description it says:Talstar One is formulated for long-lasting effectiveness. Is that the manufacturer description?
    A
We make product recommendations based on the type of of area that is being sprayed and also the type of pest that needs to be eliminated. We would need more specific information to be able to tell you why we made the recommendation that we made in that Q&A. We can tell you that for termites and ants in outdoor situations on or close to a structure we almost always recommend Termidor. Termidor has a different active ingredient than Talstar and this active ingredient allows the ants or termites to pick the product up on their bodies and move it back to the nest and spread it to the other insects. Talstar on the other hand will only kill the insects that come into direct contact with treated surfaces. Also Termidor will last about twice as long as Talstar when used as a termite barrier in a trenching treatment. Please let us know if you have more questions about Talstar vs Termidor

How many gallons of finished product can i get from a 3/4 gallon bottle of concentrate?
    A
Talstar typically is mixed at 1 ounce per gallon of water.  A 3/4 gallon jug is 96 ounces, so you could get 96 gallons of finished solution from one 3/4 gallon jug if you mixed at the normal rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Constantin from Alexandria, Va

    Q
Should I use Talstar P or Cyper WP for roaches in my apartment?
I am looking to buy a strong insecticide to keep away the roaches inside in my apartment . Which product do you think is better for me :Talstar P or Cyper WP? Do you have something else stronger?
    A
Both Talstar P and Cyper WP would do a great job for roach control. Talstar P will dry clear while Cyper WP can leave a white powdery residue behind. Cyper WP on the other hand does have a little bit of a faster knockdown. We also recommend that you caulk as many cracks and crevices as you can in your apartment. Caulk around baseboards, places where utilities such cables, pipes and wires enter in through the walls, also around plumbing fixtures and window and door frames. This will help cut down on the roaches ability to travel through the walls of your neighbors apartment and into your apartment.

  • Asked by Larry from Anderson, South Carolina
    03/13/2012
    Q
What should I use for home maintainence to protect from roach, ant, spiders & general bug problems?
I just fired my pest control company after continued 10 years of service. The cost was skyrocketing and I felt I could do it myself, for less money. I live in Northwestern area of South Carolina (foothills). I am not currently experiencing any problems and want to keep it that way. In the past I have had an occasional roach bug (German, American cockroaches) transit the home (inside) from one side to the other, Also an line of very tiny ants, that may come in from a flower windowbox just outside the kitchen sink. My home is situated on a wooded lot, surrounded by Oak trees. Also, the pest company did occasionally spray around the perimeter of the home for roaches/ants and often applied a granulated bait around the home. The wife is threatening to 'call the pest company' if she see's any roaches. Save me! What products do you recommend?
    A

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P as a drench?
I have a 50 ft banyan tree that is about 15ft around that got infested last year and lost all of the leaves. It has grown back over the winter and I don't want to go threw that again. I want prevent it now if I can. Thanks
    A
Talstar P does not work as a systemic insecticide and that seems to be what you are looking for. You should consider using a product that contains Imidacloprid such as the Adonis 2F. Adonis 2F can be used as a soil drench around the tree and the product will be translocated through the tree. You will need to use .2 oz - .4 oz of Adonis 2F per inch of trunk diameter at breast height.

    Q
What should I use on pine beetles infestation? I have infestation in a lot of trees?
    A

Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Talstar. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P to treat red spider mites on my burning bushes?
    A
Talstar P does work for spider mites and can be used on most non-edible plants. We do recommend that you spray a small portion of one of the plants and then wait a couple of days to make sure there is no damage before proceeding with the treatment.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used to control Zimmerman Pine Moth?
    A
Talstar P would be a good choice for Zimmerman Pine Moth control. Most treatments for Zimmerman Pine Moths should be done mid April - August (depending on your region) to eliminate active larvae on the tree trunk before they enter the tree.

  • Asked by Monte from Derby, Kansas

    Q
Can I use Talstar P where my chickens are walking around and eating?
i have chickens and they are free roaming, i know you can spray in poultry areas but if i spray Talstar p about 10 feet out from my home and my chickens are pecking around that same area and or eating the bugs that have been treated, will it harm my chickens or will it harm the eggs i receive from them?
    A
Talstar P is labeled to be used in poultry houses and chicken pens so it should not harm your chickens or their eggs. You must make sure your chickens are out of the area while you apply Talstar P and then they can return to the area as soon as it is dry. You should dilute 1 ounce of Talstar P per gallon of water and using a hand pump sprayer apply the solution on all door frames, window frames, areas where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure, a band of soil 6 to 10 feet adjacent to the structure, also to a height of 2 to 3 feet on the foundation where pests may be active or may find entrance.

    Q
Will Talstar P work well in a 30gal sprayer? and with granules?
I see where it says to use a 1gal sprayer but will it work as well in larger sprayers? Also is it safe to use the concentrate and the granules at the same time or is that to high a concentration?
    A
You can absolutely use Talstar P in a large 30 gallon sprayer. Just be sure you follow the correct usage rate for that much water. Talstar granules should be applied using a hand spreader or cart spreader and can be used in conjunction with the Talstar P.
