    Q
If I dilute Talstar 7.9, 1oz in a gallon of water, what % of bifenthrin will I now have?
The store brand says 0.3% bifenthrin in a quart hose sprayer bottle.By the time this is diluted with the water from the hose what % am I using? I would like to triple the strength I am getting now with the store product. In other words ,how much 7.9% should go into the quart hose sprayer bottle to give me a .9%solution ?What would the final % be that I would be applying?
    A
If you mix 1 oz of Talstar P per gallon of water you will be using a 0.06% solution. The Talstar P product label says not to use a higher concentration that the 0.06% solution and we do not recommend that you do so. We do not have any information on the store brand product that you used so we are not sure what the dilution usage rate would be on that product. Each hose end sprayer is different  in the way that it is used but if you are following the directions and use 1 oz of product per gallon of water then the end usage rate will be 0.06%.

    Q
Will Bifenthrin kill grasshoppers? The big orange & black ones that get about 3 inches long?
They hatch out in March or April & are about 1/2 in long to start with, but grow to about 3 inches long & will destroy any leafy flower or bush. The hatch out by the 100's.
    A
Bifenthrin products would be a good choice for grasshopper control. You should start applications before the grasshoppers have a chance to hatch. You should thoroughly spray your lawn and water in the application with about a .25 in of water to help the bifenthrin get past the thatch layer and into the soil where grass hoppers actually develop. If you already have grasshoppers you can use Talstar P or Bifen IT at the highest usage rate of 1 oz of product per 1 gallon of water for the quickest knockdown.

    Q
    Is Talstar P really working?
I purchased the Talstar P product and mixed it by instruction/video provided. Although, I spray the product directly on a plant infested by aphids and they just laugh at me and continue on their business. Am I missing something?
    A
Talstar does not offer an instant knockdown but it does offer a long term residual. Talstar can take several hours to kill insects when used as directed on the product label.

    Q
Do you have products for Pine beetles that are not liquids?
    A
Since pine borers are a type of bark beetle you must apply a product directly to the bark to control the beetles and these products are only available in liquid form. Unfortunately there is no easy solution when it comes to pine beetles. Infected trees should be cut down (before the newly hatched beetles fly out of the trees in the spring/summer) and the wood burned or chipped, while other still healthy trees should be sprayed annually to protect them. Because of the natural boring behavior of the beetle they are protected from topically applied insecticides and systemic insecticides (those injected into the tree or applied as a root drench) have proven ineffective for pine beetle infestations. Healthy trees can be protected before the beetles attack by topically spraying them with a synthetic pyrethroid like Talstar. The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations. You should contact your local cooperative extension office to find out the best time to start spraying in your region.

    Q
Best product in high UV areas?
I live fairly close to Las Vegas, Nevada. Lots and lots of sunshine. I'm looking for a product that will provide the longest residual killing power considering the high UV here in the desert. Target pests are cockroaches, spiders, scorpions, and ants. I have ordered Talstar P for inside use, and Demon WP for outside, in the hopes that the Demon WP will have greater UV resistance and provide longer residual action.
    A
You picked the exact products we would have recommended for your use. Demon WP will hold up very well outdoors as wettable powders are considered very stable formulations. Of course the only downside to wettable powders is that they can leave a white powdery residue behind so we usually will recommend using a product such as Talstar indoors if the powdery residue in a concern.

    Q
In Virginia and want to spray the entire yard this summer for mosquitos and ticks.
In Virginia, the newspapers are predicting a very bad season for ticks and mosquitos. I would like to spray the entire backyard (trees, shrubs, and lawn) with permethrin in an Ortho Sprayette, connected to a garden hose. Can you tell me if this is the best product to use and, if so, what are the mixing instructions? Thanks!
    A
Permethrin is not labeled for outdoor mosquito control. We would recommend using Talstar P for tick and mosquito control in your yard. Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control and tick control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief from mosquitoes and to all the tall vegetation and other known tick harboring locations.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves of plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where pests like to hang out. Talstar P should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.

    Q
Talstar vs the Ortho Home Defense Max
I applied Ortho Home Defense a month ago and i just discovered about Talstar. Do i need to reapply Talstar if i wanted to have the best protection or can i wait for a few months and apply Talstar. Would the Ortho Home Defense effective against Ants, Spiders and other nuisance insects? Please advice
    A
Ortho is a much less dialed down version of Talstar.  Talstar contains 7.9% bifenthrin, and Ortho typically has .05% bifenthrin.  Talstar is definitely the professionals version.  Ortho will probably realistically only give you 30 days of protection.  Talstar will typically give 60 to 90 days.  Due to the strength of Talstar, it would definitely be the better choice and should provide much better results.  You can apply Talstar in a few weeks probably if you just applied the Ortho.

    Q
Rid mosquitos in wooded wetland area
I live in NH. what is the best product and why to apply it around my property. I have wetlands on two sides of my yard. Thanks
    A
Talstar P is one of the most popular mosquito control products on the market. Talstar P will last for about one month outdoors for mosquito control, is gentle on the plants that must be sprayed, has no odor, is water based so it doesn't stain and is very safe to use around children and pets when used as directed on the product label. You will need about 1 oz of product for every 1,000 sq ft of space you need to treat. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio where you are trying to provide relief.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. Care must be taken not to get Talstar into any body of water as it is known to be toxic to aquatic life. If you feel that keeping it out of the water may be too difficult we also carry Essentria IC3 which is labeled for mosquito control and is non-toxic to aquatic life.

    Q
I sprayed this on my Meyer Lemon 2 weeks before it bloomed. Do I need to remove fruit?
It didn't fruit until a couple weeks after spraying. I know this is not systemic and its not suppose to be absorbed into the plant so is there any harm in eating my lemons. I have since bought captian jacks with spinosad for this tree but Im wondering if I need to discard the fruit already on it.
    A
Talstar P is not labeled to be used on edible plants. The manufacturer does recommend that you discard any fruit from the tree for this growing season if the tree was sprayed with Talstar P.

    A
Talstar P is labeled for use on lawns and is labeled for all of the pests you mentioned and many others. Talstar is odorless, dries clear, is gentle on plants and can be used indoors and outdoors for insect control. Be sure to read the Talstar P product label for complete usage instructions for the types of pests you are trying to control as the concentration and application placement will vary.

Will bleaching the baseboards after spraying Talstar inside defeat the purpose of spraying?
I have a little one crawling around and would just feel better cleaning after it has dried.....my sister in law does it but i just didn't know if it would.still be effective
    A
If you wash down the areas where you have applied Talstar P you will remove the residual effect left behind by the product. Talstar P is a crack and crevice spray only so if you just want to clean up any drips that didn't actually get into the crack or crevice that would be fine and would not have any effect on the efficacy of the product.

    Q
What does the term "space spray" mean?
I bought Talstar P and read not to use as a space spray. I had fleas in my home and I sprayed all the floors in my home. Is space spraying an outdoor term or does it mean not to spray every space in your home?
    A
Space spray refers to spraying the product into the air instead of directing the product onto a surface. The way you applied Talstar is called a broadcast spray and it is also prohibited by the Talstar P product label for indoor applications. Talstar P should only be used as a crack and crevice spray or spot spray (spot spaying means to make an application to an area that is less than 2 ft x 2 ft). We do carry products that are specifically formulated for fleas on indoor floors. Ultracide and Precor 2000 are always top choices for this type of application. If you prefer to use concentrates Onslaught and Permethrin SFR 36.8% are both labeled to be used indoors as a broadcast spray for flea infestations. We do recommend you add an insect growth regulator such as Precor IGR or Archer IGR to Onslaught or Permethrin SFR to help stop the breeding cycle of fleas while you are trying to eliminate the infestation. An IGR is already included in the aerosol products.

    Q
What is the best product to prevent both crawling and flying insects?
We spend hundreds of $$ every year to have our house sprayed to prevent bees, ants, spiders, etc. The exterminator guarantees the spray for 6 months. Is there a product that would do the same that we could do ourselves?
    A
There are not any insecticides on the market that will last for 6 months outdoors. What actually happens is the exterminator will spray a product and wipe out all of the insects nearby and it can take many months for the pests to build back up to an intolerable level. If you have been happy with the treatment the pest control operator has been using you can ask them what product they have been using. Most PCO's will also write the name of the product or the active ingredient on your bill as most states require this. We carry just about any product your PCO would have used. Our most popular general use insecticide among professionals and homeowners is Talstar P. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

They are big roaches. the ants are 2 kinds, fire ants and big black ones. Also have these 1 -2 inch long hard shelled multi legeed things with stingers on thier tails are they dangerous?

Based on the fact that you are in Texas and the description you gave, the multi-legged critter with the stingers on the back end sounds like it could be the Texas Red Headed Centipede (they are venomous) but we can't say for sure without seeing a picture of the insect. You can Google Texas red Headed Centipede to do a comparison if you like.
