    Q
Dogs eat stink bugs, safe to use Talstar P?
My dogs tend to eat stink bugs. I know Talstar P is safe around pets once it has dried, but I am concerned that when I spray my screened in porch my dogs will continue to eat the stink bugs that were killed by the Talstar P. Are there any concerns here?
    A
Talstar, when mixed according to the product label with water is only strong enough to kill small insects, like ants or stink bugs. Your dogs would have to eat huge amounts of stinks bugs at one time to have any type of negative effect on them. In most cases your dogs would not be able to consume enough stinkbugs that have come into contact with treated areas for there to be any cause for concern.

    Q
Can I use a two gallon sprayer to apply Talstar One?
    A
Yes, you can use any size sprayer to apply Talstar.  You typically mix 1 ounce per gallon of water, so if you are using a 2 gallon sprayer and going to fill it all of the way, then you would mix 2 ounces with the 2 gallons of water.

    Q
What can be used to eliminate zoysia mite?
Started seeing this in my lawn in Memphis last year. Paid professional lawn care co to eliminate, which seemed to work after spraying twice. Don't know what they used, but it's back again this year. Was a bit pricey and could probably do it myself if I knew what to use.
    A
Talstar P is our most popular product for control of zoysia mites. You will need to dilute 1 fl oz of Talstar P per gallon of water and apply the dilution over 1,000 sq ft.

    Q
Can I use Talstar P for Fleas?
My mother in laws cat recently had fleas and now my "m.i.l" wants to treat the whole house for fleas.
    A
Talstar p should not be used for indoor flea control because it is restricted to cracks and crevices indoors. Ultracide would be a much better choice for indoor flea control. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Vacuums can physically remove a decent percentage of flea eggs that are in the carpet, along with much of the organic crud that the flea larvae feed on.  The vacuum will also stimulate the flea adults still in their pupa form to quickly emerge as the adult, and at this point perhaps be sucked up in the vacuum or exposed to the Ultraicde application.  After two weeks most infestations require that you do a second application of the Ultracide and continue with the vacuuming. You should use a product that is registered to use on your pets for fleas such as Frontline or Advantage. Talstar P can be used effectively outdoors for places where your pets may frequent and also moist shady areas where fleas are likely to develop. Treating outdoors will help prevent your pets from re-infesting your home.

    Q
What is the difference between Phantom and Talstar P?
    A

Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect and is especially useful for insects that are social or extra sensitive like ants, roaches or bedbugs. Talstar P on the other hand will have a faster knockdown rate and is a bit more versatile as it can be used in more areas and for a wider variety of insects. When trying to decide which insecticide to use you need to know: 1. What are you trying to eliminate? 2. What areas need to be treated? After you answer those questions, read the product labels to make sure the pest and the treatment area are both listed. If you still need help deciding you can call us at 866-581-7378.

    Q
Is it safe to eat herbs that were sprayed with Talstar One?
It was not sprayed directly on but I saw spray go through the air onto this area. Should we not eat the herbs now? Would it be best to cover the herbs with plastic for future sprayings?
    A
No, the herbs should not be eaten. Talstar is not labeled to spray on edible vegetation and the effects of eating food products contaminated by the insecticide are not known. We would definitely recommend covering the herbs in the future to prevent contamination.

    Q
Are there any adverse effects to birds when using Talstar One?
I have new tenants moving into my rental property and they have various indoor birds. I have a service that sprays the exterior of the house on a regular basis with Talstar One. With summer coming up, the tenants are concerned about the effect on the birds if they were to leave the windows open when the outside of the house is being treated. Is this product going to have any adverse effect on the birds? Thank you
    A
While we do not think the Talstar would hurt the birds, sometimes it is just a matter of perception. Basically if someone thinks the product is likely to hurt their beloved pet, they may think any health issues the pet has in the days, weeks, months following the application is because of the insecticide. We recommend closing the windows while the exterior treatments are being done and then opening them after the application has dried in order to avoid any issues. Talstar is odorless, dries clear and is known to be one of the safest insecticides to use around people and animals.

    Q
What is the best thing to use to get rid of white flies?
    A
Talstar P is our most popular product for white fly. It is important to spray the underside of the leaves on infested plants for effective control. Heavily infested leaves should be plucked off the plant and tossed in a bucket of soapy water.

    Q
I currently use Cyonara 9.7. How does Talstar P compare to Cyonara 9.7?
    A
The Talstar P and the Cyonara 9.7 are both great products and are very comparable for general pest control. Talstar P is very gentle on plants and is odorless. If you have a bedbug problem or need a faster knockdown Cyonara 9.7 would be a better choice. Our recommendation here at DoMyOwnPestControl.com is if the product is working well for you, stick with it.

    Q
Does Talstar P work on killing the brown marmorated stink bug?
This seemingly useless creature is a real pest. Please help! Thanks very much
    A
Talstar P will kill stinkbugs. You should dilute one ounce of Talstar P per gallon of water. You will use a hand pump sprayer to apply the solution on all door frames, window frames, areas where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure, a band of soil 6 to 10 feet adjacent to the structure, also to a height of 2 to 3 feet on the foundation where pests may be active or may find entrance. As the stink bugs crawl over the treated area, they will receive a lethal does of the insecticide and usually die within a few hours. You should treat every month starting in August and ending in November for best results.

Yes. Keep Talstar P applications to cracks and crevices around the perimeter of each room, door frames, window frames and other areas where you see stinkbugs emerging. Be sure pets are out of the area while you are applying Talstar P, and they can return as soon as the product is dry.

  • Asked by Robert from Jacksonville, Fl.
    10/15/2011
    Q
I'm using Talstar to treat my home for bed bugs. Is it safe to spray on furniture like the couch and mattress?
    A

Absolutely not.  Talstar is not labeled to apply to any furniture, mattresses, or other areas that you may come into contact with.  Talstar is restricted to cracks and crevices and other areas that you would not come into contact with.  The instructions for applying Talstar for Bed Bugs are below, and you should know that even in the instructions it states that Talstar should not be used as your only protection against bed bugs.  Our most popular product for bed bugs is our bed bug kits.

Bedbugs: Thorough application should be made to crack and crevices
where evidence of bed bugs occurs. This includes bed frames, box
springs, inside empty dressers and clothes closets and carpet edges,
high and low wall moldings and wallpaper edges. Do not use this product
on bed linens, pillows, mattresses or clothes. Remove all clothes
and other articles from dressers or clothes closets before application.
Allow all treated areas to thoroughly dry before use. Not recommended
for use as sole protection against bedbugs. If evidence of bedbugs is
found in/on mattresses, use products approved for this use.

  • Asked by Dennis from Mechanicsville, Maryland

    Q
Need help getting rid of biting flies, horseflies and other smaller biting flies by my swimming pool
the flies are constantly buzzing around your head and biting when you are in the pool and on the one side of my yard primarily
    A
Horseflies and many other species of biting flies tend to develop on the edge of bodies of water and since they are strong fliers these breeding areas can be near or far which makes finding the source next to impossible. You can apply a product such as Talstar P around the pool area and flies that land on the treated areas will be eliminated. Using Talstar will give some relief but since these flies can fly over treated areas it can be tough to get complete control. Relief should be on the way soon however as horsefly season is usually on 3-6 weeks long.

    Q
Will Talstar P harm Anole Lizards?
We have anoles in our organic vegetable garden and we don't want to harm them. Will they be harmed by this chemical, when it is sprayed on the house and windows?
    A
As long as the lizards are not sprayed directly with Talstar they should not suffer any ill effects from the use of the product. You may notice a reduction in the lizards however as their food source (insects) will be reduced or eliminated by using Talstar P.

    Q
What to use for ground bees?
what to use for ground bees?
    A
Ground bees, also known as digger bees, can be very difficult to control no matter what product you use and they most likely will come back to your property year after year unless you do your part to alter your property to make it unfavorable to the bees. Ground bees prefer dry soils with thin grasses so irrigating the area frequently and correcting any issue that causes your grass to be thin will help deter the bees from nesting. In areas where you do not have grass, a layer of mulch will help deter the bees from nesting. Ground bees are solitary bees and are not very aggressive and are known to be a beneficial insect which is why you will not find any products specifically labeled for this type of bee. Talstar P can help provide some level of control but it will not get rid of all of the ground bees on your property. You should use Talstar P at a 1 oz of product to 1 gallon of water for a 1,000 sq ft area ratio. This will give you the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual. Talstar P does not offer an instant knockdown but will kill insects that come into contact with treated areas over a short period of time.
