Talstar P Professional Insecticide - Questions & Answers

Yes. Talstar P can be safely used around pets as long as you follow the label instructions; all pets need to be out of the area while application is being made and they can return as soon as the application is dry.

Talstar P is labeled for roaches, and should do a great job helping you eliminate the infestation. We recommend that in addition to a concentrated liquid insecticide like Talstar you also use a high quality roach bait gel such as Invict Roach Bait Gel to help get the roaches that hide in places where you cannot spray (cabinets, counter tops, drawers) as well as an insect growth regulator such as Gentrol Point Source to help stop the breeding cycle of the roaches. You can purchase both of these products together in our Roach Control Kit #1.

The Talstar is a residual which means it will not be a contact kill for the roaches. It could kill a roach within a few hours or within a day depending on how healthy the roach is, and how long it spent on a surface that was treated with Talstar. The spray will typically last indoors 90 days and outdoors 30 days, but for an active infestation you would want to retreat every 30 days indoors until the colony is eliminated.

Phantom is a non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect and is especially useful for insects that are social or extra sensitive like ants, roaches or bedbugs. Talstar P on the other hand will have a faster knockdown rate and is a bit more versatile as it can be used in more areas and for a wider variety of insects, but it will only kill the roaches that contact the treated area, whereas the Phatom will help to kill the entire colony, as does the MaxForce FC Magnum.  Please be aware this does take time, it can take weeks or months to completely eliminate a roach infestation.  The NyGuard is only birth control to keep the roaches from reproducing and side effects of that are the crinkled look.  For more helpful hints on eliminating your infestation, take a look at our guide on How To Get Rid Of Roaches.

Talstar P can be used at the maximum usage rate of 1 fl oz of Talstar P per gallon of water for tick elimination. This product cannot be used in edible food gardens.

Yes, you can use Talstar with a Hose end sprayer. You can pour the Talstar directly into the hose end sprayer tank and set the dial setting.

For the best application of Talstar P to your lawn, you want to first mow the grass a couple days ahead of application. You want to make sure there is no rain in the forecast at least 4 hours after application, to ensure the Talstar will stick. It is safe to spray Talstar in and around ornamentals, trees, shrubs, lawn, and can be used indoors as well.

If Talstar is stored with the cap tightly closed and in a moderate temperature area, the shelf life will be 3-5 years.

Yes, Talstar is labeled to treat Chinhc bugs. You would mix 1 fl oz talstar into one gallon water and this will treat approx. 1000 sq. feet. You want to reapply outdoors once every 30 days.

Talstar is very safe to use around children and pets once it is dry.  You should remove the bird and any other animals and children from the room while you are performing the treatment.  Once the treatment is dry, which usually takes about 45 minutes, it is perfectly safe to place the bird and other pets back into the room

Talstar is not labeled to be applied to any type of animal.  If you are trying to treat your dog for felase we do carry several products that are labeled for use on dogs, you can find them here.  Our most popular product is the PetCor Flea Spray.  Petcor Flea Spray contains Precor IGR, an insect growth regulator that targets fleas in the egg and larval stages of development. As a result, pre-adult fleas cannot produce new infestations of breeding, biting adults.

Our most popular general use product is called Talstar.  It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments.  It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.

We recommend you use Talstar P. Talstar P should be applied every 30 days at the 1fl oz per gallon of water usage rate from August through to the first frost. If you need to spray high areas you may need to use something like the Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer 6002. This sprayer is much different than most sprayers but there is a video located on the page we have linked for you that will show you how to use the sprayer.

Talstar P is specifically labeled (page 4 of the product label) for a number of medically significant spiders including Black Widow, Brown Recluse and Hobo Spiders. It is important to remember that Talstar P does not give an immediate knockdown. It works over a period of several hours to kill spiders that have come into contact with the product.  You should also do your part by making your property less favorable to spiders. There are certain plants of trees such as the Japanese red maple which we would caution you before applying any product. If in doubt on treating a certain plant you should treat one plant only or one small area of the plant with the Talstar before treating the whole plant. Wait at least three days to see the results before continuing.

The Talstar comes in 4 sizes and you did not mention which size you are seeing on our site. You can purchase it in either a Pint, Quart, 3/4 Gallon or Gallon size container. Termidor or Talstar P cannot be used in the manner you have described and neither are labeled for use on. Termites do not normally attack live, healthy trees so you most likely will not find any products that will work as a ground barrier around the trees.  Most people are primarily concerned with protecting the big investment, their home, and Termidor would be the product to use for that.  It is only labeled to be used adjacent to the structure though.  Please take a moment to read over our article on "How to do a Termite Treatment" for complete details.

Talstar is none irratating if it touches the skin, but is not recommended to be around until it has dried. Talstar will not harm babies if the product label is followed.

Talstar P can be used to help control cluster flies and lady bugs indoors and outdoors. If the cluster flies have already made their way indoors, they will be harder to control because they usually hide in a wall void or other inaccessible area and are only visible when the house warms up. If the cluster flies are in an attic or drop ceiling or other dark area, a fly light would do a great job controlling the population. Using small fly lights such as the Fly Web in the house would also help to catch the flies. Spray Talstar P directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.
