    Q
My leylands are infested with bagworms. I bought Talstar and sprayed in late June early July.
It spit rain about 4 hrs after spraying and then poured about 2 days after. Should I retreat or wait a month or so?
    A
Talstar P only needs an hour or two to dry, and once it is dry it does not matter if it rains 2 hours later or 2 weeks later, it should hold up the same once dry.  So our answer is, you do not need to re-treat just yet.  However, it would not, or should not anyways, hurt the tree if you wanted to apply a second application now that is not mixed as strong for good measure.

    Q
What is the best and longest lasting mosquito product?
I live in Southwest Louisiana and we have had a lot of rain lately thus a bad outbreak of the little bloodsuckers. I need a product that is not going to disappear after the first rainfall?
    A

Talstar is our most popular selling product for mosquito control.  It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using any hand pump sprayer or backpack sprayer.  The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or patio you are trying to provide relief at.  It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out.  It should be applied every 30 days for optimum control.  Best of all it will not harm any birds in the area.

  • Asked by Terry from Temperance, Mi

    Q
    Black vine weevil control, Talstar?
Have severe infestation of what appears to be black vine weevils that covers a large part of the area, and it is getting worse every year. They are eating the forsythia, golden vicary privet, mums, and coral bells, to the point that some are totally denuded. I read that Talstar may provide control. Is this true, and if so are there any special application techniques required?
    A
Talstar is labeled for treatment of weevils and many of our customers have cited success with Talstar for weevils.  The product label calls for half an ounce per gallon of water, and this should be applied over 1000 square feet.  There are not really any special instructions other then to cover all foliage completely including the base and trunks of the plants.

    Q
Can Talstar P be used to control Zimmerman Pine Moth?
    A
Talstar P would be a good choice for Zimmerman Pine Moth control. Most treatments for Zimmerman Pine Moths should be done mid April - August (depending on your region) to eliminate active larvae on the tree trunk before they enter the tree.

  • Asked by Brad from Hagerstown, Md
    05/24/2012
    Q
I have a caterpillar eating the top of a blue spruce tree. What product do you recommend to kill them?
The tree is about 7 feet tall and the caterpillar or worms are all over.
    A
It is important to have the caterpillar identified so that we can make the best product recommendation for your needs. Without the exact identification we would recommend Talstar P as it is a broad spectrum insecticide that can be sprayed on blue spruce trees.

  • Asked by Sharon from Scurry Texas
    06/25/2012
    Q
Grasshoppers, plague proportions, what's the recommended product?
I would like to use a hose end sprayer with the water hose. I see the video of a gallon jug - being used only around the edges and crevises. I've got to cover the entire ground.
    A
You can use Talstar P to cover non fruit bearing trees, lawns, bushes, shrubs and other areas excluding edible vegetation. Talstar P can be used in a hose end sprayer and should be diluted 1 fl oz per gallon of water for the fastest knockdown and the longest lasting residual for grasshopper control.

  • Asked by Roland from Santa Fe Tx, Galveston County
    06/29/2012
    Q
What should I use for a heavy infection spidermites in 20 ft tall junipers?
junipers 20ft tall how to best controll galveston tx.
    A
Talstar works well for both the mature and the immature spider mites. Talstar provides optimal spider mite control when applied during spring to mid-summer. Higher application rates and/or more frequent treatments may be required for acceptable spider mite control during mid- to late-summer. The addition of a surfactant or horticultural oil may increase the effectiveness of Talstar. Talstar applications may be rotated with those of other products  that have different modes of action in control programs that are designed  to manage resistance by two-spotted spider mites. Consult your local Cooperative Extension Service for resistance management recommendations in your region.

  • Asked by Hiya from Portland, Oregon
    07/11/2012
    Q
Can Talstar get tracked into the home?
This product leaves a dry residual (which obviously then sticks to & kills bugs) and is also recommended for spraying around doorframes. Thus the dry residue will get stepped on when people come & go through the door, and so it seems at least some product will definitely get tracked into the house. This seems to be a possible health concern, as it will then get further tracked onto rugs/furniture/etc, where it is NOT supposed to be applied. Is this reasoning correct?
    A
No. Talstar does not get stuck to bugs as you described. Talstar will bind to the surface on which it has been sprayed and insects must be on treated areas for a certain length of time to receive a lethal dose. That is why the Talstar P label recommends that you spray the product directly into areas where insects harbor and travel and that broad areas are treated around the home.

    Q
What is a parasitic wasp? How do you treat the interior of a building?
    A

A parasitic wasp is a beneficial wasp that uses other insects including aphids, beetles, caterpillars, flies, sawflies, scale insects and true bugs as hosts into or onto which it lays its eggs. The development of the wasp eggs will usually kill the host insect. Parasitic wasps are considered beneficial insects for the natural control of many pest insects that they provide. A number of parasitic wasp species are commercially available from insectaries.

Talstar P is a great choice for treating the interior and exterior of most buildings and will eliminate over 75 different insect pests. Talstar P is diluted with water as specified by the product label and applied using a hand pump sprayer. Spray directly on baseboards, window frames, door frames, and places where utilities (pipes, wires, cables) enter in to the building and any other crack, crevice or gap where insects can enter.
