    Q
I have ants pulling sand out from in between my pavers and creating mounds.
I already have talstar-p that i purchased from you. Will that work by applying in the seams or do you recommend something else?
    A
Talstar P will kill the ants that come in contac with the treated area. To eradicate the colony, we would recommend to use a product like Phantom kills by transfer, so they walk right over it and then spread it to other insects hidden behind walls or in their home colony, killing every other pest they come in contact with

    Q
I want to spray my own house for bugs. I live in Oklahoma City, and I used to pay a service to do it.
They went out of business and I was forced to use Terminix. Well they suck. I just want to keep insects out of my house, but I don't know what to buy or how to apply. I have a small ant problem in one of the bedrooms as well. Any tips? Oh, I would also like to keep the flies down in the summer. Any suggestions for that? thanks,
    A
Our most popular general use product is called Talstar. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with and you can use it outside the home as well as inside, it is odorless and very safe for use around children and pets. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer. It will last for 60 to 90 days outside in between treatments. It is also labeled for lawn and ornamental use, and can be used on trees, plants, bushes and shrubs for all sorts of ornamental pests including Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other leaf eating pests. Talstar is also available in a granule formula called Talstar PL if you prefer to use granules.
Talstar P is labeled to help control many types of flies and can be applied to your lawn as well for them.
You may be seeing ants in the bathrooms, because they are looking for water. Since ants can be quite fickle with the foods they are eating, we recommend the Complete Ant Kit. This kit combines both a sweet and protein based bait. Please also see Ant control article.

    Q
Lizards under vinyl siding on home, what can we do keep them out of there?
We have a modular home and the lizards crawl between the siding slats on the house.
    A
We can't sale anything to kill lizards. We can recommend to treat the bugs they are preying on. Talstar P will kill the insects they are preying on and thus the lizards should go elsewhere for food.

    Q
How do we get rid of field mice/stinkbugs/flying squirrels and "ladybugs"?
we bought a modular home (we are second owners/hse vacant for 1yr) - had exterminating contract for 1 yr - yr is over, no luck. have 4 indoor cats - tried do it yourself products - no luck - they are dirty, leave droppings, curtains spotted (from bugs), vacuuming up constant - mice/squirrels in walls keep us awake - can even hear them above the fan! afraid they will chew wires etc and set the house on fire. HELP
    A
Thank you for your inquiry. It sounds like there are a few things going on here. First, please see our squirrel control page.  If you know where the squirrels are entering you can use a Squirrel trap. Also, try and seal up any entry points using copper mesh. This will help with the mice as well. Second, please see our Mice control page. You can use the  Rodent Kit to bait and kill the mice. You would place the tamper resistant bait stations around the outside perimeter of your home. Lastly, we would recommend using Talstar P for your insect control indoors and out.

    Q
    Does Talstar P kill spiders?
    A
Talstar will kill spiders.  However, it is not a contact kill product....it is made more for longevity and having a long residual.  It will work much faster when a spider is present when you are spraying and you spray directly on the spider.  It will still not die immediately, but rather quickly. Once the spray dries, if a spider walks over it at a later time, it will pick up the dried Talstar on its body, but it will take much longer to kill it.  It can take hours to a day or so for it to finally kill the spider, depending on the size of the spider.  Most all residual insecticides will work this way

    Q
Will Talstar P kill earthworms if applied to flowerbeds or the lawn?
I need to kill ants and roly poly bugs (those that roll up in a ball) because the roly polys are eating my plants roots/bulbs. The ants are everywhere and get in the house, but to go around the perimeter of the house I'd have to also apply the Talstar to some flowerbeds. And I'd want to put it in every flowerbed IF it won't harm the earthworms because they are beneficial and I want to especially rid the beds of roly polys.
    A

Talstar P could potentially harm earthworms and other benficials should they come in contact with it; however, a surface application would not get deep enough into the soil for this to be an issue. Keep in mind, also, that earthworms have a coating that protects them from exposure to many products that would easily kill insects.

    Q
Can Talstar be used in a gas powered fogger/sprayer?
    A
Talstar can be used in a backpack sprayer or a mist blower like the Solo 451 but it cannot be used in any type of fogging equipment. Please take a look at our Fogging Concentrates to see if any of these might be more suited to your application needs.

  • Asked by Duane from Meridian, Idaho

    Q
Will Talstar P and Bifen IT be the best choice for mosquitos, spiders and other general pests?
Hello... Last "mid summer" I used Talstar liquid all around the house, patio and deck as well as my shop building to try and control ants, spiders and other bugs in general. I also used Bifen granules in the yard and shrub areas. Between those two products, it seem to work very well for the bulk of the summer season, even on Mosquitoes. I'm out of the granules and low on the Talstar and need to get more but my question is: Is there something that I should be using instead of the Talstar and Bifen that would work better yet? We're in Idaho and the main insects I'd like to stop are the ants, all spiders in general and the mosquitoes. I realize there are many other insects that these products kill as well which is good but you have so many products available and at all seem to overlap in killing different types if insects that I'm having a hard time deciding on what would be the best to use this again year. Thanks much, Duane Walker
    A
Talstar P or Bifen IT mixed with NyGuard IGR would be a great choice for mosquito control and they are also labeled for spiders and other listed insects. You will mix an ounce per gallon of water per 1,000 sq ft per month on the exterior of the structure. During mosquito season, you will add 3ml to the Talstar P or Bifen IT and it will last for 7 months. It is an insect growth regulator and does not have to be applied as often as the insecticide concentrate.

    Q
Can Talstar P be applied at a high pressure or will it break down the molecular structure of the chemical?
    A
Talstar P should not be used in a high pressure sprayer. Most recommended insecticide sprayers use a range of 30-150 PSI. Higher range PSI will tend to break down the insecticide.

  • Asked by Cynthia from Slidell

    Q
I am spraying my backyard to kill fleas, and I live in humid region. I am concerned about Talstar drying.
I have several dogs, and I a want to spray in the evening when they are inside, however I am concerned about the humidity not allowing the spray to dry before morning. I also wanted to know if the morning condesation will be an issue? Is the morning or the afternoon better for a humid climate?
    A
Talstar P is a water based product that dries just as fast as water alone would dry.  Spraying in the afternoon would be best to allow the product to dry better.  The morning condesation should not be an issue as once Talstar dries it will stay on the surface pretty well.  You would apply once a month keeping pets out of the area.

    Q
Is Talstar P effective for fleas indoor and outdoors?
    A
Talstar P is labeled for the treatment of fleas outdoors only. It can only be applied to indoor cracks and crevices. Fleas will be on the open floor surfaces so it is important to apply a product such as Alpine Flea Insecticide with IGR to those surfaces indoors for eradication.

    Q
I sprayed while my dog was in the area and I think directly inhaled Talstar What should I do?
    A
After Talstar P (Talstar One) has been diluted there is only a large enough active ingredient to harm small insects. With that being said, the label states to keep children and pets out of the area until the area has dried. Please contact your veternarian for further assistance. You can also contact the manufacturer FMC 800-321-1362.

  • Asked by James from Kenner, Louisiana

    Q
Can Talstar P and Termidor SC be mixed together for one application?
Also, I have a massive wasp problem around my lawn my house and my shed if I do this treatment will it kill them and keep them gone for a long period of time?
    A
Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide. This means the insects cannot tell that it is there and they will readily walk over treated areas. Termidor SC also has a delayed reaction time and a transfer effect which allows them time to get back to the colony and spread it around before they succumb to the effects of the product. Talstar P on the other hand is synthetic pyrethroid which many sensitive insects such as ants can detect. Insects may avoid the areas treated with Talstar and those that do cross over treated areas are the only ones that will be killed by the product. Talstar P does not have a transfer effect so it will not be transferred back to the colony. While the Termidor SC will not actually be deactivated by Talstar P, it will be much less effective if it is over-sprayed with Talstar P. You can spray Talstar P on your trees, bushes and lawn for mosquito control as long as you are not actually overlapping the areas where Termidor SC was applied.

Wasp Freeze is a product that will kill wasps if they are sprayed mid-air; however for long-term results, it works best on exposed nests that you can spray directly. If you see where they are entering, we recommned that you use a hand duster and apply a dust such as Tempo dust to the holes where the wasps are going in and out. The dust will help eliminate the wasps in the nest and any other wasps returning to the nest. Tempo dust will stay effective for several months as long as it is dry. After dusting in the void where the wasps have a built a nest you can try spraying the siding with a product such as Talstar P. You can spray once a month and any wasp that lands on treated areas will be eliminated within about 24 hours which should stop new wasps from being able to build a nest.

    Q
Talstar P Pet safe when dry? Morning dews?
In my region we frequently have heavy dews each morning. I have 2 dogs that go out early morning when the dew is still on the lawn to do their jobs. What about then? Is it harmful after application when it becomes wet over and over again? My Boxer tends to clean herself by licking her legs every day.
    A
Talstar P (Talstar One) is completely safe after it has dried. Your pets are safe to enter the area even if there is a dew. It will not cause the active ingredient to "reactivate" to a state that could be harmful. Also, after dilution there is only a large enough amount of active ingredient to kill small insects.

    Q
Does Talstar P kill lightning bugs?
    A
Talstar P would kill lightning bugs if they were to land on the treated surface and crawl across it.  Insecticides are not really selective in what they kill and Talstar is labeled for over 75 different pests and will kill just about anything.

  • Asked by Dana from China

    Q
What is the proper indoor application for Talstar?
I live in China and hired a company that uses this product but it is difficult to communicate. Should Talstar be sprayed only in cracks and crevices or on walls? Can it be sprayed in food cupboards?
    A
Talstar P should only be applied as a coarse, low pressure, crack and crevice or spot spray to areas where pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipers, doors and windows, attics and eaves, behind and under refirgerators, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas.  It is not labeled to be used in cabinets.  You can find complete instructions on the product label here.
