Talstar P (Talstar One) is a great product to use for fungus gnat control. It is to be used inside and outside the home, but will only kill the adults as the larvae is protected in its egg form much like a chicken egg is protected until cracked. To control the larvae you would need to mix the NyGuard IGR (birth control) in with the Talstar. NyGuard is labeled for fungus gnats as well as a large variety of other insects to sterilize the adults from being able to lay viable larvae. This will control the population drastically in keeping new ones from developing. You should mix 1 ounce of Talstar P with 4 ml of NyGuard IGR to each gallon of water you use. Talstar P can be used as a broadcast over the entire lawn or just as a perimeter treatment. You will want to focus on the mulch bed area and the underside of shrubs, bushes, or trees in the area. It is completely safe to spray on ornamentals. In the garage area, spray as crack and crevice and focus on damp areas/reducing the water/moisture. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Talstar P is effective for treating clover mites. You will need to mix one oz. to one gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft.
There are typically no issues mixing different kinds of sprays together, such as an insecticide and fertilizer or fertilizer with herbicide. We always recommend doing a small jar test for compatability when mixing any products together for the first time, unless the product labels expressly address the tank mix you are using.
There are two things I would caution you against with these mixtures. One is if you are using herbicides for your turfgrass and wanting to use an insecticide for mosquito control at the same time. For mosquito control, you want to use a product like Talstar P on ornamental shrubs, tree branches, etc.; however, you should not spray post-emergent herbicides like Drive, Tenacity, or Trimec on these areas since those herbicides would damage your ornamental plants.
We would also be careful about mixing more than 2 herbicides at one time since this could cause extra stress on your turfgrass.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Talstar works great for mosquito control. The key is to apply it to all shrubs, trees, and other foliage around the house or where you are trying to provide relief. It should be directed not only on top of the leaves and plants, but on the underside of the leaves as well which is where the mosquitoes hang out during the heat of the day. Talstar should be applied every 30 days for optimum control. When treating for mosquitoes we also recommend the use of an IGR like Tekko Pro. Tekko Pro IGR contains the active ingredient Pyridine that imitates a growth hormone and prevents full develop in immature mosquitoes.
Talstar is not labeled to be used around ponds, lakes or other water sources. Applications should be kept at least 25 feet away from the pond. Depending on what you are treating for, you could also use something like EcoVia EC instead, which is labeled for many of the same pests and will not harm aquatic life.

Keep in mind that you should not rely on a spray like Talstar P as the only product you are using to eliminate a roach infestation. We also recommend using a roach bait gel and an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) for the most complete roach control. We sell these items together in our Roach Control Kits. Please take a few moments to review our online Roach Treatment Guide for more tips.
A mask is not required to apply Talstar P if you are applying in a well-venitlated area. If you are applying in a small, confined space with poor ventilation, you can use something like the N95 Valved Respirator Mask. Please be advised that we are only able to ship within the U.S. at this time.
Talstar P (Talstar One) is not labeled for grub worms and most likely will not provide satisfactory results when used to control them. We do have several products that are specifically labeled for grub worms on our website: Grub Worm Control. We also recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and inquire about the best time to start treatments for grubs in your region. In many parts of the country the grubs are already matured and they are emerging as adult beetles. For mole products and treatment information, pleae check out our article on How to Get Rid of Moles.
