Talstar P (Talstar One) should only be mixed as directed on the label to be considered safe. Overapplying can cause an area to be more repellent, causing insects to avoid it, so the insecticide cannot do its job.
Yes, Talstar P can safely be applied as a crack and crevice application indoors. Be sure to follow the instructions on the product label.
Talstar P (Talstar One) will only kill those bugs that contact a treated area and states on the product label it should not be used alone for effective eliminate of bed bugs. This residual can last up to 90 days inside along baseboard, cracks and crevices, etc. It will not prevent a reinfestation. Typically, one product will not do the job. That's why we offer our Bed Bug Kits which have multiple products that are used in different areas in the bedroom and that do different things. The kit is exactly the products that a professional company would use and charge you hundreds of dollars to apply. All of our kits come with full instructions on where to apply each product. We make it easy as possible for you to treat your own bed bug problem, and our kits have a very high success rate when used correctly.
We also have a helpful prevention guide here.
Permethrin SFR and Talstar P should not be mixed together. You would use one or the other.
No, Talstar P Professional Insecticide is not harmful to pregnant women, pets, or kids if used as directed on the product label. We would suggest staying out of the treated area until the application has fully dried.
Talstar is labeled for silverfish and will do a great job helping to eliminate them. Be sure to spray in all of the cracks and crevices where silverfish are known to harbor for best results. You may want to take a look at our Silverfish Control Guide for more information.
One of our most popular general use products is called Talstar. It is widely used by pest control companies because it is labeled for almost every insect you could have a problem with including roaches and ants. This product can be used inside and outside of the home, it is odorless, dries clear and very safe for use around children and pets. It is a liquid concentrate that you mix with water in a one gallon hand pump sprayer. The mix rate is 1 oz per gallon of water. It will last for 90 days indoors and 30 days outdoors.
It would be recommended to remove any overspray of Talstar P Professional Insecticide from the door handles as this is not a labeled area for use. You can do so with warm water and soap. It is best to set your sprayer to a pin stream when needing to apply around door frames/hinges to prevent overspray to nontarget areas.
Talstar P can be used to kill carpenter ants that are sprayed directly or which contact the residual spray. However, Talstar P will not transfer throughout an ant colony to kill the entire colony. If you are finding carpenter ants trailing indoors, then we recommend our Indoor Carpenter Ant Kit, which includes two different baits, refillable bait stations, and a residual spray with two active ingredients. If the ants are in a wall void and you are unable to bait for them, then another great option is applying a ready-to-use non-repellent foam such as FUSE Foam into the wall void where the nest is. Please refer to our online Carpenter Ant Treatment Guide for more tips.
We generally recommend using a pyrethroid such as Talstar P Professional Insecticide or Permethrin SFR as a preventative treatment in late spring/summer before egg hatch to protect trees. If trees are badly infested, then they should be removed and either chipped or burned.
Keep in mind that trees which become infested with bark beetles are almost always susceptible due to some other existing weakness such as drought or disease.
Talstar P will kill stinkbugs. You should dilute one ounce of Talstar P per gallon of water. You will use a hand pump sprayer to apply the solution on all door frames, window frames, areas where utilities (cables, pipes, wires) enter into the structure, a band of soil 6 to 10 feet adjacent to the structure, also to a height of 2 to 3 feet on the foundation where pests may be active or may find entrance. As the stink bugs crawl over the treated area, they will receive a lethal does of the insecticide and usually die within a few hours. You should treat every month starting in August and ending in November for best results. It is also labeled for Asian beetles aka lady beetles and should do a good job.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide would not be recommended for use if you need to treat wood directly. It only sits on the surface of wood and would not penetrate. It used to be used as a perimeter treatment to the soil in a trench around the home until non repellent products like Termidor SC were developed. For treating wood directly, a better option would be Bora-Care, either sprayed or painted onto the rafters. We have great guides for treating both subterranean and drywood termites that would be helpful to review as well.
Neither Talstar P Professional Insecticide or Hi-Yield 38 are systemic products. We are unaware of any systemic product that is labeled for use for spider-mite control as a soil drench. This pest is mainly treated with foliar sprays with something like Talstar P, Avid (which is a translaminar systemic – meaning absorbed through the leaves), or Hexygon DF.
The most popular product for sod webworms is Talstar. Talstar is very effective on most insects and it is safe for bahia grass. Time applications to control young larvae, if possible. Spot treatments may be applied when infestations are first detected and the damaged area is small. The treatment will be most effective if applied in the early evening when larvae begin feeding. Please take a look at our Sod Webworm Treatment Guide for more information.
You can help prevent gnats from entering you home by spraying a barrier application of a product like Talstar, Tempo, Demand, or Suspend, paying special attention to window frames, window screens, door frames, and cracks and crevices that may be used as points of entry. A screen with a very fine mesh (smaller than 16mesh) will help prevent entry. Additionally it may be helpful to keep ceiling fans and window fans on at high speeds to keep insects out of small areas. You may want to look over our article on Getting Rid of Gnats for more information.
If gnats have already entered your home and you need immediate control use Microcare, P.I. Aerosol, Cy-Kick Aerosol or EcoPco ACU. These products offer fast knockdown and kill of flying insects giving you immediate relief.
Talstar P Professional Insecticide can be used as a spray for general pests over the trench as the termites would not be affected by it since they are below the soil. It will have no effect on the treated soil. We have a great guide for treating mosquitoes here.
For outdoor use the Talstar P will be safe for animals of all kinds once dry. For indoor use if you have pet birds, we recommend removing the birds from the home while you treat and for at least 4-6 hours to give plenty of time for the product to dry and air out. Birds are more sensitive to chemicals and smells so keeping them out of the treatment areas for longer than pets like dogs and cats is recommended. If you have any safety concerns regarding its use around your birds please take info on the product to your birds vet for consultation.
When the larva or the moths make contact with areas that have been treated with Talstar P they will be killed by the dry residual. They must contact the treated area for any product to work. Typically a crack and crevice application and lots of cleaning and vacuuming will help eliminate these pests. We actually have a pantry pest kit put together which includes six Pro-Pest Pheronet traps for catching pantry moths, plus a 14 oz. can of D-Force Residual Aerosol with a crevice tool (straw) for spraying in cracks and crevices around shelves and walls to kill pantry pest larvae in harborage areas. You can learn more about pantry moths by reading our Pantry Moth Control Articles.
Talstar is an insecticide only and will not kill frogs, nor will it act as a barrier to prevent them from coming into the area. Unfortunately, we do not know of any products that we carry which will do so. You are correct, though, in that using Talstar will reduce the insect population in the area, which will cause it to be less attractive to the frogs.
Yes, Talstar P can be used for both ticks and mosquitoes.
