    Q
If the foundation of the house is more than 5 feet from a well, can I still use Taurus SC?
I have a termite issue and as a DIY'er I am determined to resolve the issue without paying a lot of money to Terminix. My problem that I keep running into is my well. The well is located about 10 feet from the foundation of my home. I want to know after I trench and treat will I be contaminating my well water?
    A

In the area where the well is located, you cannot use the trenching method, only the backfill method is allowed. The backfill method instructs you to trench and place the soil that was removed onto a tarp, pour 1 gallon of diluted solution per 1 cubic ft of soil, mix thoroughly, return soil to trench. The complete instructions are listed on the Taurus product label under the heading "Treatment of structure with wells or cisterns"

    Q
It it necessary to trench around a foundation with the Taurus SC for termite control?
I recently sprayed Taurus SC around the exterior walls and foundation of my home. Does this have any effect against termites? or is trenching absolutely necessary?
    A

The Taurus SC Termiticide will have some effect on termites that come in contact with where you sprayed, however they would have to surface to come in contact with the insecticide since you only sprayed it on the surface, and subterranean termites stay protected under ground or in mud tunnels. Spraying also only has a 3-6 month residual.  If you want a true barrier of protection around your home or structure with the 10 years of protection, then yes trenching is nessesary for the Taurus SC Termiticide to bind with the soil and stay there for 10 years.

  • Asked by Stacy from Marksville, La

    Q
Will Taurus SC work on fleas in the yard?
    A

Taurus SC is not labeled for fleas. Fleas tend to live in moist shady areas out in the yard where pets or other animals spend a lot of time resting. Taurus SC however is only labeled to be used in very limited areas on or immediately next to the house or structure making it mostly ineffective for flea treatments. We recommend you use our Outdoor Flea & Tick Kit to get rid of fleas in and around your home. You should use a topical flea product that is labeled for use on animals such as Petcor if you are trying to also rid your pets of fleas.

  • Asked by Antonio from 1403 Winterwood Dr Allen,tx 75002
    09/23/2014
    Q
Is it safe to spray Taurus SC in the switches and plugs instead of making holes on the walls to treat voids
    A
Taurus SC Termiticide is not safe to apply into any electrical outlet. It would be most effective injected into the galleries in the wood. When injecting Taurus into the walls you want to drill about 6 inches from the floor surface and between every wooden stud down the entire length of the wall. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Patricia

    Q
Why can't Taurus SC be applied indoors for ant problem?
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide is NOT labeled for indoor general pest control. The Taurus SC Termiticide product label only allows indoor applications to wall voids (behind sheet rock), unfinished attics, unfinished basements, and crawlspaces for active termite infestations.  Taurus SC Termiticide could be harmful if used indoors and would be in violation of the product label.

You can use the companion product Phantom Insecticide for ants indoors.

  • Asked by Tony from Lexington, Sc
    04/18/2018
    Q
How would you recommend treating a small shed with Taurus? The shed sits on 4x4 posts set in concrete.
    A

If there is dirt immediately around the posts, then you would trench around the posts with Taurus SC in the same way you would treat around a larger structure. So you would use about 0.5 gallon of solution around each 4" x 4" post (0.4 oz of Taurus in 0.5 gal of water). If the concrete extends out from the posts, then you would not be able to trench there. Instead (or in addition to trenching), you could use Bora-Care to treat any raw wood on the shed to prevent infestation of termites and other wood-decay insects.

    Q
If I am doing a termite trench application with Taurus SC, is it necessary to trench along both the inside and outside of the crawlspace, or can I just treat the outside?
    A

Trenching along the interior wall of the crawl space with Taurus SC is not necessary unless trenching along the exterior wall isn't possible.

  • Asked by Jimmy from Boston, Ma

    Q
Are blueberries safe to eat if we have sprayed Taurus on the soil last year?
We sprayed Taurus SC Termiticide on the soil around the foundation at the beginning of last summer. We have some blueberry plants that are 1 foot away from the foundation. We didn't eat any of the blueberries last year but are they safe to eat this year (or next)?
    A

Per the manufacturer, since Taurus SC was only sprayed around the foundation, one foot away from the blueberry plants and you've already skipped one growing season, it is safe for you to harvest and eat your blueberries this year. Taurus SC is not a systemic and does not move through the plant.

  • Asked by Cheryl from Portland, Or

    Q
Do I have to use a sprayer to apply Taurus SC if my termites are in a tree stump in the yard?
Can I mix it with water and bucket and dump the mixture on the tree stump?
    A

Yes, Taurus SC does need to be applied directly to the tree with a sprayer since this is more controlled than just pouring solution into the tree stump.

    Q
I have 35 gallons left in my tank from 4 weeks ago is it still going to be effective?
    A

The manufacturer of Termidor SC recommends that you use the diluted solution within 24 hours. The longer the product sits in a solution the less effective it will become.

  • Asked by Margo from Miami, Fl

    Q
Do you have to dig a trench when using Taurus SC?
When I bought the product, I don't recall it saying to dig a trench. It just said spray it around the perimeter of the house. I'm wondering if it will work. I'm afraid to reapply in that the termites will detect its presence if too strong.
    A

If you are using Taurus SC Termiticide  for termite prevention, yes it must be applied in a trench as explained in our guide here as well as on the product label.  For just general pests it can be sprayed around the perimeter of the home 1 to 2 feet up and out on the ground but this not effect termites that do not contact the surface.  When termites forage they are inches below the soil

  • Asked by Jamison from Frankfort, Ky
    04/15/2018
    Q
Is there any scenario where I might need trench deeper than 6 inches before applying Taurus SC?
My brick veneer is deeper than 6 inches. I'm afraid the termites are going under the brick somewhere where it meets my poured concrete basement wall and travelling up behind the brick.
    A

Per the Taurus SC Termiticide product label: "Basement Structures: Exterior perimeter: Apply by trenching and rodding into the trench or by trenching along the foundation walls at the rate of 4 gallons of finished dilution of Taurus SC per 10 linear feet per foot of depth, or, if the footing is more than 4 feet below grade treat to a minimum depth of 4 feet. Trenches need not be wider than 6 inches and must be a minimum of 6 inches deep or to the bottom of the footing. When trenching in sloping or tiered soil, the trench must be stepped to ensure adequate distribution and to prevent Taurus SC from running out of the trench. Never treat a structure below the footing. Space the rod holes no more than 12 inches apart in a manner which will create a continuous treated zone. Mix the finished dilution into the soil before replacing it into the trench". Depending on the design of your home, you may need to trench deeper. It is safe to do so if you feel they are getting in under the brick and want to trench to that depth. It should not go below the footing of the home.

    Q
Do I need to redo the Taurus SC Termiticide treatement if it rained about 14 hours after?
    A

There is no need to reapply Taurus SC Termiticide if rainfall occured 14 hours after treatment. That is plenty of time for the product to become rainfast.

  • Asked by Dennis from Aiea, Hi

    Q
Taurus SC: why the 4 times a year restriction?
I'm using it for ants. Why wouldn't I use this again if they appear again? Even it means applying more than 4 times a year? Thanks.
    A

Taurus SC Termiticide has a long residual and should only be applied at the lowest rate if using 4 times a year as labeled by the manufacturer to be the safest application.  You will still see ants after application as it takes time to completely kill off a colony but you should not apply more often than labeled. They will still die after contacting a treated area.

  • Asked by Jose from Yuma

    Q
How do I treat my house with Taurus SC Termiticide if I have concrete from my house to the fence?
Moved in to a new house on one side of the house is 100% covered with concrete and part of my driveway.
    A

Concrete areas should be drilled and apply Taurus SC Termiticide every 10-12" apart, 2" from the foundation. You will disperse 4 gallons every 10 ft of drilled holes. Please take a few moments to review our treatment article on How to Get Rid of Termites for a successful application.

  • Asked by Renco from New Smyrna Beach, Fl
    06/20/2018
    Q
What is the per gallon mixture ratio of Taurus SC?
I want to spray areas of infestation in the house.
    A

Taurus SC is not for indoor use at all unless you are treating for an active termite colony behind a wall void that you plan to drill a small hole into the wall to get to. If that is the case, you would use the same rate as you would for the trenching method outdoors which is 0.8 oz per gallon of water.
