  • Asked by Pete
    07/30/2009
    Q
How do I use Tempo SC Ultra and will it hurt my plants?
I have a millipede problem. They seem to be coming out at night from my mulched areas around my in ground pool. I find many in the pool every morning.
    A

Tempo SC Ultra is a great product for millipedes as well as many other insects. Tempo SC Ultra. It is labeled for use on plants and is not known to cause damage to healthy plants. Millipedes need moisture to survive, and they prefer hanging out in dark damp places, which is why they hang out in the mulch and are attracted to the pool and the basement. A good barrier spray around the mulch beds and around the house will help. However, the main issue is the moisture. If you can eliminate some of the moisture issues, then you will minimize the harborage areas for the millipedes. Some ways of doing this are to make sure all shrubbery and bushes are cut back from the house at least two feet. Also, rake back any mulch against the house in flower beds at least 6 inches. This will let the ground dry up against the house and there will be less likely of a chance the millipedes will want to go towards the dry area. If you re-mulch every year and don’t clean out the old mulch, then this is also a problem. You should remove some of the mulch near the pool and house, and eventually consider replacing with a ground cover that doesn't’t hold moisture down as much as mulch, such as pine straw or even better, decorative rock that stays for years and lets the ground breathe.

    Q
Will Tempo SC Ultra work to kill fire ant colonies?
    A

Yes, if you drench a fire ant mound with Tempo SC Ultra it will elminate the colony and any ant that touches where you sprayed or poured the product. If you have a heavy problem with fire ants however we suggest using a product more specific to the pest like Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait.

    Q
Is Tempo SC the best product to use for carpet beetle?
I've had an exterminator spray my apartment 2 times for carpet beetles. Not sure what product they are using but live beetles are still being found. Is this the best product to use to take care of them myself?
    A

Tempo SC Ultra will kill carpet beetles that come in contact with it, but Tempo SC Ultra is really designed as a crack and crevice spray. You could use Nyguard Plus, which is safe to use on carpets. Please be sure to keep these tips in mind as well.

Carpet beetle larvae like to feed in dark, undisturbed locations like closets, attics, basements, and storage areas. The wide availability of food sources for the larvae (including dust and lint, and pet hair) makes vacuuming the best way to ensure there is minimal food for the larvae to feed on. Vacuuming can also help to remove the larvae and adult beetles already in the home. Regular vacuuming and laundering of rugs, furniture, and linens can help to ensure the beetles are removed and have no food source. If you find a contaminated item, bag and remove this item from your home, if possible.

Proper storage: Before storing silks, woolens, or furs, dry clean as the beetles are attracted to stains and soiled garments. Store in a well-sealed container, using mothballs. Mothballs can limit the beetle’s attraction to the wool or silk. Store pet food, dried meat, and other dried animal products in a well-sealed container.

Insecticides: For things that cannot be washed or dry cleaned, insecticides are the best bet for prevention and eradication.

Insecticides can be used for spot-treatments, as a boundary at the edges of rugs, under rugs, under furniture, walls and floors of closets, shelving, cracks, and lint or dust accumulating areas. Be careful around oriental rugs or other fabrics, as some insecticides can stain. Never spray clothing or bedding with insecticide, and always read instructions.

    Q
Is Tempo SC the product you spray around windows and doors to keep flies away for 3 months at a time?
    A

Tempo SC Ultra has a residual of 30 days outdoors and 90 days indoors. It is labeled for flies as well. You will use between 8-16 ml per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Jessica from Cave In Rock Il
    08/08/2013
    Q
Will Tempo harm fowl such as chickens or quineas if they are on the treated area after the spray has dried?
I know that fowl peck the ground and eat bugs however I have a serious flea problem and my guineas are not yet old enough to be turned out. I want to spray my yard and barn
    A
Unless the chickens are consuming the Tempo SC directly there should be no effect on the bird or their eggs. Once the product has dried, it only has a toxicity level of that to kill something as small as an insect. The insect walks across it, picks up a little bit on their feet/bodies and ingests it as they groom themselves. For there to be even a chance of your chicken having any effect from the Tempo on the bugs, they would have to eat at least their weight worth in grasshoppers that have died from it.  All animals need to removed from the treatment area while applying until the application dries.
