  • Asked by Douglas from Nashville

    Q
Should I use Tenacity before or after aerating and overseeding?
I'm starting to think about using my tenacity in September however I want to aerate and overseed my yard either before or after. What are your recommendations as to a timeline before after
    A

If you are using Tenacity Herbicide as a pre-emergent herbicide, then you should aerate first and then apply Tenacity at the same time as seeding or just before. Do not wait until the new grass has started to come up before using Tenacity. If using Tenacity as a post-emergent, then you can apply anytime before seeding, but keep in mind that it may take a couple weeks to kill the target plants, so you would want to wait for those plants to die before aerating and reseeding.

    Q
What happens if you don't bag lawn clippings the first time after applying Tenacity?
    A

It would be best if clippings were bagged after the first mow and application of Tenacity Herbicide.  Bagging will help with lawn health.

  • Asked by Dylan from Mount Royal, Nj
    08/06/2019
    Q
Can I apply Tenacity Herbicide as a post emergent prior to overseeding?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can be used at the time of seeding for most grass types. Fine fescue is the only grass seed that should not be used at the time of application. It is recommended that you wait 2-4 weeks after an application of Tenacity Herbicide to reseed with fine fescue.

  • Asked by Andrew from San Antonio, Tx
    08/07/2019
    Q
Would it be okay to use one application of Tenacity Herbicide for a large area, do a 2nd application 2 weeks later, and then use a slit seeder?
I already have existing centipede grass but want to overseed with seed slitter but afraid my order of application may mess up germination.
    A

You can apply Tenacity anytime before seeding up to the same time that you seed. If you are applying Tenacity as a post-emergent herbicide, then it is usually best to do that application first and wait for the treated plants to die so you can remove any excess dead plant matter before you overseed the lawn. Tenacity will not interfere with seed germination of turfgrasses listed as tolerant on the product label.

    Q
Will tenacity kill nut grass in my garden?
    A

No, Tenacity Herbicide should only be applied to the turf grasses listed on the product label.  For nutsedge in landscaped areas it is recommended  to spot treat the sedge with a glyphosate or Round Up type product directly.  We recommend Roundup QuickPro 1.5 oz. packs for ease of use.

    Q
Will Tenacity Herbicide kill Bermuda grass in a Fescue lawn?
    A

The product label states that bermuda grass is sensitive to Tenacity but it would not be recommended as a product specifically used to kill it.  Fusilade II can be used to get rid of bermuda grass in tall fescue.  Please be advised that bermuda grass is extremely difficult to control and you will likely need to make several applications.

  • Asked by Jack from Harrison City, Pa. 15636
    08/13/2019
    Q
How do I mix Tenacity Herbicide?
I want to broadcast spray my entire lawn. 4,000 sq ft Thanks.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide calls for 5 to 8 oz of per acre, unless treating St. Augustine turf grown from sod, you would use 4 oz per acre. If you plan to use Tenacity at low rates of 5 oz per acre then you would use 0.11 oz per 1000 sq/ft or  0.45 oz per 4k sq/ft. If you want to use the high rate of 8 oz per acre then you would use 0.18 oz per 1000 sq/ft or 0.72 oz per 4k sq/ft. Be sure to use at least 1 gallon of water per 1000 sq/ft that you treat, and mix your non-ionic surfactant into the tank at the rate of 2 teaspoons per gallon of water. Spray foliage of target weeds until wet but not until the point of runoff. If a reapplication of Tenacity is needed, you can reapply after 2-3 weeks from your initial application.

  • Asked by Giovanna from Fishkill, Ny
    08/14/2019
    Q
Can I use Tenacity Herbicide on Zoysia to get rid of wild violets? When can I reseed?
    A

According to the product label: Bentgrass, Poa annua, kikuyugrass, zoysiagrass, seashore paspalum and bermudagrass are sensitive to Tenacity applications. Avoid spraying these turf types unless control and/or injury can be tolerated. Maintain a five foot buffer between treated areas and bentgrass or Poa annua greens. While Tenacity is not labeled to kill zoysia it will most likely do so.
