    Q
Can you freeze 1 gal of properly mixed Tenacity Herbicide, in small spray bottles, to be used in the future?
    A

Tenacity cannot be mixed and then frozen for future use as the freezing temperatures would make the product ineffective.

  • Asked by Derek from Upper Marlboro, Maryland
    09/18/2019
    Q
After over seeding, when can I apply Tenacity?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is one of the few products that can be applied at seeding, prior to seeding, or just after seeding of new grasses to help prevent and control weeds at the same time. Be sure to check the label for any restrictions to certain turf types as Fine Fescue is more sensitive than other species when using Tenacity at seeding. Be sure to use a Non Ionic Surfactant with Tenacity when applying for best results.

  • Asked by Regis from Greensburg
    09/23/2019
    Q
Will Tenacity get rid of bentgrass?
Is it too late to start applying Tenacity on October 1? Would it be better to wait until spring?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is our most popular product for eliminating bentgrass from other desirable turfgrasses, but it does typically require multiple applications. Late summer/Fall applications will be more effective than Spring applications.

  • Asked by Lawrence from Wilmington, Il.
    10/01/2019
    Q
Why do you not want to use a hose end sprayer while applying Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

It is not recommended to use a hose-end sprayer to treat your lawn with Tenacity Herbicide or any other herbicide. The problem with using hose-end sprayers is that they are not very accurate, and you can wind up dispensing more or less product than recommended per area. This can lead to less than desirable results.

  • Asked by Jacqueline from Garden City, Mi

    Q
Do you recommend Tenacity for fall application to Michigan grass?
My yard is being overtaken with Creeping Charlie and wild violets (along with numerous other weeds). Thought if I applied this now, in the spring I could re-seed
    A

The best temperature range to apply most herbicides, including Tenacity, is between 65-85 degrees. For the best specific application times for your region, we recommend contacting your local extension office directly and speaking with the Master Gardener.

  • Asked by Robert from Ellicott City, Md

    Q
How do I apply Tenacity when the nimblewill has gone to seed?
We've had a drought the past month (September/early October 2019) in the Baltimore/Washington DC area and the nimblewill has gone to seed (and my lawn service just arrived to mow my yard as i started typing this). I was pulling them but there is just too much and the ground is dry as a bone.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is applied to nimblewill when it is actively growing, and should be applied when temperatures are between 65 and 85 degrees.  You should make your application when no rain is in the forecast for 24 hours, and you should not mow 2 days before or 2 days after your application.  It is applied at the rate of 1 teaspoon of Tenacity, 3 teaspoons of surfactant, in 2 gallons of water per 2000 sq ft.

  • Asked by Douglas from Nashville, Tennessee
    10/10/2019
    Q
Can I overseed Bermuda at some point after using Tenacity?
https://www.domyown.com/tenacity-herbicide-p-1877.htmlDormant. With the fall here now I'm ready however my question regards over-seeding.
    A

Since Tenacity Herbicide can be used only on fully dormant Bermudagrass, there is not a time when you would be overseeding and using Tenacity at the same time. You would overseed with Bermuda when the turf is actively growing in spring or summer, if needed at all. So if you applied Tenacity on dormant Bermuda, then it would be long gone by the time the turf is completely green and any seeding would be fone. If you would like to tell us more about the weeds you are targeting, then we can recommend alternate products for your needs.

  • Asked by Jj from Myrtle Beach

    Q
Can Tenacity be used on dichondra lawns? Will it kill spurge?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for use on a dichondra lawn, and it is not labeled for spurge. Dichondra lawns are considered a type of ground cover, and many herbicides may prevent this type of lawn from growing. Please contact your local cooperative extension office Master Gardener for assistance on products that will take care of the weeds in your lawn without causing harm. Please let us know if they suggest a product, and we will certainly make an effort to locate it for you.

    Q
Can Tenacity be sprayed up to and around young fruit trees?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide cannot be applied around edible vegetation. When applying the product to your lawn, you would want to be sure to avoid over-spray or drift of spray applications onto the fruit trees, and avoid spraying within the drip line of any edible trees.

  • Asked by Richard from Dalton Gardens, Id
    10/30/2019
    Q
Will Tenacity Herbicide kill yellow iris around my pond?
Digging iris does not rid my pond or area of it. It is now a weed and I tried roundup but it wasn't effective.
    A

Tenacity is not labeled to control undesirable ornamental plants, although it may harm them if sprayed accidentally. You will need to remove physically all the parts of the iris - including the rhizomes in the soil – in order to prevent these plants from regrowing the following year. You can use a glyphosate product such as RoundUp QuikPro to kill the above ground plants, but you will need to remove the rhizomes after spraying. This article has easy-to-follow directions on this treatment, which is best done in the fall.

    Q
At what temperature can I apply Tenacity Herbicide?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide may be applied when soil temperatures are around 55 degrees or higher.  Do not apply when air temperature exceeds 85 degrees. Your target temperature range will depend on whether you are using Tenacity for pre-emergent or post-emergent applications. This is typically between 65-85 degrees. Please consult the product label for complete application instructions.

  • Asked by Ronnie from Charlotte
    12/15/2019
    Q
Is Tenacity Herbicide supposed to be a white color like milk?
I wonder if it is out of date. Is it supposed to be clear? Mine looks like milk, and I see no sign of it killing anything after one week.
    A

According to the Safety Data Sheet, before Tenacity Herbicide is diluted, it should have a beige to tan liquid appearance. If the product has been tightly sealed and kept out of sunlight and extreme temperatures, the shelf life is 3-5 years. When using Tenacity, foliage of treated weeds cease growth after application, then turn white (loss of chlorophyll), and death may take up to three weeks. A repeat application is required after two to three weeks for improved postemergence weed control.  A non-ionic surfactant should be added in post-emergence applications. Please review the product label for more information about this product and applications.

  • Asked by Don from St. Louis, Mo
    01/25/2020
    Q
What is the mix rate for Tenacity? Also, does it require a surfactant?
How often can it be applied?
    A

According to the Tenacity product label, you will need to mix 1 tsp of product + 3 tsp surfactant with 2 gallons of water for spot treatments applied at a rate of 1 gallon per 1,000 sq ft. It is advised to use a dye like Turf Mark Blue with it so you can make sure to not overlap if you plan to do a broadcast application on the property. Repeat applications can be done after two to three weeks for continued post emergent weed control.
