    Q
How do I follow up after using Tenacity as a post-emergent?
I used Tenacity as a post emergent week killer in May (Ohio). It's worked wonderfully. Should I mow the dead weeds and reseed this year? Wait until next year and the remaining grass will fill in? Wait until next year to reseed?
    A

When using Tenacity Herbicide as a post-emergent, you can apply anytime before seeding, but keep in mind that it may take a couple weeks to kill the target plants, so you would want to wait for those plants to die before aerating and reseeding. It is recommended to rake out the dead plant matter prior to aerating and reseeding the lawn.

    Q
Before applying Tenacity Herbicide, my lawn was aerated & over seeded. The weeds are now white so do I need to do anything to the weeds or will they dissolve on their own? Will the newly seeded grass continue to grow?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide will kill the crabgrass, weeds, and clover eventually. However, if you are seeding you may want to remove the dead weeds to allow the seeds more room to grow. Otherwise, you can just leave it as is.

    Q
Will Tenacity Herbicide prevent my wildflower seed from germinating?
I am wanting to sow new wildflower seeds on my steep slopes (larger area).
    A

Many wildflowers are considered weeds and Tenacity Herbicide could prevent them from growing or can cause damage to the seeds that do sprout. If you have weeds in the area, we recommend using a roundup type product to kill all of the weeds and you can plant the seeds after two weeks.

    Q
After applying Tenacity do I just put topsoil over the white dead bentgrass area, and re-seed over it?
After 2 or 3 applications it's turning white, I've read previously that I shouldn't remove the dead white grass.
    A

We would recommend removing the dead bentgrass before planting your seed after using Tenacity Herbicide.

    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used on Zoysia to treat creeping charlie and yellow thistle for pre and post emergent applicatons?
    A

No, Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for use on Zoysia and could potentially cause damage or injure the lawn. Unfortuanately, there is not a pre emergent currently on the market for creeping charlie and nutsege therefore the best method of control will be to use a post emergent when the weeds are actively growing. Dimension 2EW is a great choice for pre-emergent control for over 200 broadleaf and grassy weeds.

Blindside Herbicide is a post emergent labeled to contol activily growing weeds such as creeping charlie (ground ivy) purple and yellow nutsege, crabgrass, dandelion, etc.  The mix rate for Zoysia is 0.15 - 0.23 oz per 1000 sq ft (6.5 - 10 oz / per acre) .

    Q
Will my dog be harmed if she eats grass treated with Tenacity Herbicide ?
    A

Once the application of Tenacity Herbicide has had time to dry it is safe for pets and children to reenter the treated area. Typically after 4-6 hours.  The small amount of active left is not enough to injure a dog that may eat the rass.

    Q
I applied Tenacity when temperatures were 79 degrees and later in the day, temperatures reached 93 degrees. Will Tenacity lose its effectiveness due to the spike in temperature?
    A

If the Tenacity Herbicide application had enough time to completely dry before the temperatures spiked to 93 degrres, there shouldn’t be any issues. It is recommended to apply Tenacity when temperatures are between 65 to 85 degrees so early morning or late evening applications may work best if temperatures above 85 degrees during the day are expected. If any yellowing or discoloration occurs, the turf should recover after a couple weeks.

  • Asked by Michael from Charlotte, Nc

    Q
Should product only be used during seeding growing months (spring/fall)?
Have had success with Tenacity in killing weeds, however weeds do grow back. Are you supposed to skip using the product during the summer, because you're likely unable to grow new seed until the fall? It seems like an on-going battle with the weeds, and curious if you're supposed to go after the weeds when you're able to replace it with grass. Otherwise you're wasting your time.
    A

When applying Tenacity Herbicide for pre emergent contol of the listed weeds, temperatures should be around 55 – 65 degrees consecutively for 4-5 days. For Kentucky Bluegrass and Tall Fescue, Tenacity is able to be applied before, at the same time or directly after seeding and will not inhibit grass seeds from germinating.

Also, refer to the Weeds Controlled Chart on page 9 of the product label for the specific weeds you are targeting to see if they are marked as Supppressed, Controlled or Both when using Tenacity. It is possible that the weeds you are targeting are not suppressed with pre emergent applications and only controlled as a post emergent.

If applying as a post emergent with a Non Ionic Surfactant when weeds are actively growing, you would need to wait at least four weeks or until the new grass has been mowed twice, whichever is longer.

The key time to avoid spraying Tenacity on new seedings, either as a pre-emergent or a post-emergent, would be when the new seedlings have started to come up but are not yet established.  Please refer to page 12 of the label for complete application instructions around seeding.

    Q
How long do I need to wait after spraying Tenacity Herbicide to put some micro clover in my lawn?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can last in the soil up to 30 days if used as a broadcast pre emergent treatment, so you would need to wait at least 30 days after an application before putting in any new seeds.

  • Asked by David from Fl
    06/28/2021
    Q
Is there something I can do to revive the zoysia grass that was sprayed with Tenacity?
    A

There may not be any options for reviving the turf that was damaged by Tenacity Herbicide. You can apply a lot of water to the treated areas but you may need to reseed or resod the injured areas eventually that died out from the application (this can take weeks depending on the date of application).

    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be used with Battleship III?
My lawn care service uses Battleship III when applying fertilization applications. Can this be used in conjunction, because it is clearly not working for clover and crab grass in the lawn.
    A

Battleship III is only for controlling broadleaf weeds and will not effect crabgrass or other grassy weeds at all.  The label does not mention tank mixing with herbicides like Tenacity only fertilizers so we would not recommend doing so.

    Q
Can you spray tenacity over dead grass
Haven't watered the grass. Grass is dead. The summer heat has killed my lawn. I have annul bluegrass in with the dead grass. Will this help with killing the annul bluegrass if I spray tenacity over the dead grass?
    A
Tenacity Herbicide will not control annual bluegrass so whether the lawn was currently alive or dead wouldn't make a difference in this case. If the lawn is already dead, you can spot spray the annual bluegrass with roundup. Typically, annual bluegrass cannot withstand high heat temps, so if the heat this summer has been high enough to kill or heavily damage your lawn, it should have also done the same to the annual bluegrass. If you plan to reseed your lawn this fall, then you can try using the Tenacity as a pre emergent during seeding, however it is only labeled for poa annua suppression when used as a pre, and there are other herbicides that would be better suited to preventing it from coming back. However the herbicides that do this the most effectively are also ones that would prevent your new grass from coming up, so you could not seed and use a better suited pre for poa annua in the same season.
