    Q
Should dead/dying crabgrass be pulled up before Sept. overseeding after using Tenacity Herbicide?
Crabgrass has taken over front lawn. Applied Tenacity in early August and crabgrass white/brown and dying 2 1/2 - 3 weeks later. Now I want to do a fall overseed. Do the massive areas of dead crabgrass (and some nutsedge) all have to be pulled up before roughing up, spreading top soil and reseeding? Need to reseed soon, but the crabgrass won't have withered and died in time. (in Mid-state NY).
    A

When using Tenacity Herbicide you should remove the thatch layer before reseeding, and it is best to aerate prior to the application as well. You want to be sure that the new seed has the best chance to come in contact with the soil.

    Q
How soon after Tenacity Herbicide treatment can I overseed?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide can be applied at the same time as seeding (unless grass is more than 20% stand of fine fescue). If application cannot be done within 7 days of seeding you would need to wait a minimum of 30 days, or until the seed has emerged and been mowed at least twice before applying to the lawn.

    Q
How long should you wait before retreating your grass? It has been 2 weeks since I first applied. I can see
the sprayed areas are turning white. Should I do another application at this time. The "bad" weed is hanging in there and I want to totally get rid of it befor winter. Thanks

According to the Tenacity product label you can reapply the product after 2-3 weeks for post emergence control of actively growing weeds for best results.

  • Asked by Anne from Horsham, Pennsylvania
    05/06/2014
    Q
Is it possible to apply Tenacity to a large area (one acre) with a hose-end sprayer?
    A
It is not recommended to use herbicides in hose end sprayers. The problem with using the hose end sprayer for the Tenacity Herbicide application is that they are not very accurate and you can wind up dispensing more/less product than needed in a given area which can lead to less than desirable results.

What is the official word on using Tenacity on Jap stiltgrass?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide is not labeled for Japanese stiltgrass. We generally recommend using Acclaim Extra Selective Herbicide for Japanese stiltgrass. Be sure to check the label to make sure your turfgrass is tolerant.

  • Asked by Wade from Dade City, Fl
    11/25/2015
    Q
Is my St. Augustine grass going to die where it has turned white after applying Tenacity Herbicide?
I mixed as per label, using the included syringe, and used a surfactant. Spot applied to trouble areas of the lawn. Now you can see everywhere that I sprayed it. My St. Augustine is white. But the white grass keeps growing and needs to be mowed. It has now been 3 weeks since application. For obvious reasons, I did not make the second application.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide does cause whitening of plants since its mode of action is to prohibit chlorophyll production in target plants. Many users have had whitening on the lawn after applications, but the grass usually does recover after 3-4 weeks. The product label specifies that Tenacity be used at lower rates for St. Augustinegrass, and only on established sod St. Augustine; St. Augustine lawns started from seed may have more sensitivity Tenacity. If the grass is still growing and needing to be mowed, then it will usually recover. You may want to wait several weeks to be sure future applications will not permanently damage your turf. Also, be careful so that your application is even and not overlapping, and that you are using a surfactant when making your application. You may also want to consider adding a turf marker such as Turf Mark Blue to prevent over-application.

  • Asked by Tommy from Richmond, Va
    06/07/2016
    Q
What do I do if it rains on recently applied Tenacity Herbicide?
I applied Tenacity to my yard in Richmond, VA. Shortly afterwards, a quick thunderstorm and shower hit the area. Do I reapply immediately assuming it did not dry properly, or do I wait the 2-3 weeks and apply again? Also, I have a nutsedge infestation. I got Tenacity for that specific purpose. Sedgehammer was mentioned as a better solution, but I was also told to that I would not be able to aerate and overseed in the fall if I used it. Is this true? Thanks.
    A

If it rained less than 4 hours after applying Tenacity Herbicide, you will need to reapply, but wait until the area has dried. Tenacity Herbicide is labeled for Yellow Nutsedge so it should work if that's what you have, just make sure to follow the label instructions. Sedgehammer Herbicide is definitely a great solution for nutsedge. According to the label you may overseed with annual or perennial ryegrass or bermudagrass, 2 weeks after application. All other seeding can be done 4 weeks after application. If you plan to aerate, you can do it 3-4 weeks after application as well to avoid stressing your grass.

    Q
Should I aerate prior to applying Tenacity?
I am planning on aerating my lawn.
    A

If you plan on aerating it is best to aerate prior to an application of Tenacity. This is especially important for pre-emergent weed control.

  • Asked by Bill from Saint Joseph, Mi
    09/07/2016
    Q
Is it OK to apply Tenacity and Bayer Advanced grub control during the same week??
The label warns against using some insecticides within a week of applying Tenacity. I am not sure if the Bayer grub control product (which contains Dylox) is one of the restricted products.
    A

Tenacity Herbicide's label says to "not apply an organophosphate or carbamate insecticide within seven days of a Tenacity application". Bayer's Dylox 6.2 Granules or Dylox 420 SL both have an active ingredient of Trichlorfon which is considered an organophosphate, therefore you should wait the window of at least 7 days before you apply Dylox 6.2 or Dylox 420 SL to the area that has been treated with Tenacity Herbicide.

    Q
Will Tenacity kill the crabgrass already established in my yard?
I planted grass seen to a newly estalblished yard this past march. The summer heat killed most of grass and now i mainly have crabgrass everywhere. Im wanting to seed in the next 4-8 days. Can i spray tenacity now in order to kill the weeds that are already present?
    A

Yes, Tenacity Herbicide is both a pre and post emergent. So it can be sprayed now to kill the current crabgrass that you have as long as it is still actively growing. Please be sure to use the product label for the correct usage rates for your application.

  • Asked by David from Woodmere
    07/26/2017
    Q
Can Tenacity Herbicide be mixed with other herbicides such as Sedgehammer or Speedzone?
    Can I mix with Iron?
    A

Tenacity Herbicide states the following in reference to tank mixing. We always recommend doing a small tank mix test before application.

"Tenacity has been tested in tank mixtures with Barricade 65WG Herbicide (prodiamine), Vanquish® (dicamba), Turflon® ester (riclopyr), Spotlight™ (fluroxypyr), Quicksilver™ (carfentrazone), Basagran® (bentazon), Princep® (simazine), and AAtrex® (atrazine) for safety and efficacy on turfgrasses. Tenacity must be applied at reduced rates (4 fl. oz./A or less) if tank mixed with atrazine, bentazon or simazine. Other tank mixture partners may be safe but have not been tested. Turf managers wanting to tank mix Tenacity with other herbicides should test on a small basis for compatibility, safety and efficacy before treating large areas. See product labels for directions and precautions"
