    Tenacity Review

    By Marty on 10/07/2014

    Verified Purchase

Within the first two weeks, I noticed that some grass was turning white, which, according to the instructions, was supposed to happen. The net grass is still brown, and I am hoping after the second treatment, which was done a couple of days ago, will do the trick. I bought the product specifically for bent grass, and I hope that it works.

    Tenacity is Awesome

    By Dave on 08/16/2017

I have been fighting crabgrass in my Centipede lawn for years. I found Tenacity and applied it per the instructions (spot spraying). As advertised, the weeds turned white, which made it much easier to identify them for the second application, after which they were gone. This is a terrific product!

    tenacity, WOW

    By Rene on 07/06/2018

A little hesitant at first, specially with the price for a small container. I have used all kinds of weed control on my centipede grass, Speed Zone Southern the latest. They all worked ok until Tenacity. This stuff so far is killing all weeds I have tried it on, and my grass is green with no ill effects. Heed the instructions as it is very powerful. It took it a couple of days before results started slowing appearing, leaves turning white. It instructs you to also add a coloring agent as it being so strong they want no overspray. Very impressed

Tenacity Weed Killer Should NOT be Used on Zoysia Grass

    By Tracey on 04/10/2020

I had watched a video on YouTube whereby a person used Tenacity to kill weeds in his grass. I applied this product with a surfactant and Turf Mark. I used the recommended amount of each product. Unfortunately, I did not read the small print regarding certain grass that can be damaged by Tenacity. That includes Zoysia. As I watched spots in my lawn turn yellow, then white over a period of three weeks I wondered if the product had killed my healthy Zoysia grass. Fortunately, it did not. The Tenacity also did not kill the weeds. It is a very expensive product that does not work on Zoysia grass.

    Waste of time and money

    By Sheena on 05/22/2020

I used this to get rid of crab grass in my lawn plus some other weeds.. I followed the directions added surfactant and dye to mark the areas I sprayed. The weeds did not even slightly discolor.

    Slow acting but potent herbicide.

    By Zac on 09/08/2016

In nothing I read did it mention that this was a very slow acting herbicide; as in weeks versus days or hours. Even at the recommended dosage, a simple spray will kill (crabgrass, and wild strawberries were my targets). I'm questioning its effectiveness at pre-emergent control... As a test I did the following: 1) Spray entire plot with roundup to kill of existing grass, clover, and wild-strawberry 2) On half the plot I used a full sterilization technique (cover with clear plastic for two weeks to kill off any seeds, etc.), 3) After the two weeks I tilling the entire plot. Then once I tilled the ground I sprayed the Tenacity then planted my Kentucky Bluegrass seed: the wild strawberry came up on the unsterilized side. It came up and the leaves turned immediately white, so it is working, but postemergence not pre. Using this on an existing lawn, as others have mentioned, means that you're not only gonna have ugly weeks in your yard, you're gonna have ugly TOTALLY WHITE weeds in your yards for about 2-3 weeks. I would say this is best for a newly planted plot, or if applied to existing lawns, right before leaves drop (or right afterwards if you rake up leaves), and then again in the early spring.

    Not suitable for residential use

    By Mikeb on 05/26/2017

I'm using this on bluegrass lawn to control wild violets, crabgrass and nimble-will (sp?) The action is terribly slow and then requires a second application prolonging the desired results. Weeds do seem to be declining except for clover which is relatively unaffected. The white spots throughout my lawn are really irritating to have for 3-5 weeks AND it is really expensive.

    Not sure yet

    By John on 06/18/2017

After first application turned whole yard brown. Most of the "good" grass is starting to come back now. Its been about three weeks. A little hesitant to put second application down because I don't want to stress yard out again. Looks bad now but may be worth it in the end. Time will tell...

    Works great BUT....

    By Al on 08/10/2017

Tanacity works very well however the cost is prohibitive for large properties. I'll buy more when the cost is seriously reduced.

    Tenacity Herbicide

    By Tom on 10/25/2017

Used Tenacity on my Creeping Bentgrass problem. Put down two applications and the Bentgrass appears to have died, turning brown while leaving the good grass alone. Since its nearing the end of the season I will wait until next spring to see if the Bentgrass returns and the good grass fills in the dead, brown areas, reseeding if necessary. If it does return then will definitely apply again to finish the job. This product worked like a charm and I would definitely buy it again.

    Tenacity Herbicide

    By Kevin on 07/27/2018

strong stuff! A small amount makes a big dent in weeds, but doesn't kill the grass. It takes a few days to see results, but it's definitely worth every penny!

    Tenacity post emergent kills crabgrass

    By G on 09/01/2019

My Tennessee "fescue" lawn was about 50% crabgrass. I applied Tenacity with a surfactant in early August according to label directions. By day 4 the crabgrass had turned white while the fescue seemed unaffected, I made a 2nd application of Tenacity on day 12, and by day 19 most (I estimate 90% or more) of the crabgrass was dead or nearly so and the fescue still appeared unharmed. As a post emergent crabgrass killer, Tenacity seems to work well. I hope it's as good when used as a pre emergent.

    Collateral Damage

    By Danny on 05/08/2020

I did two applications 2 weeks apart. It's Killing the weeds...very slowly, However it also bleached good grass. Looks like my yard is dead and I'm surrounded by dark green lawns. Neighbors think what the heck is up with it. lawn bleaching reached max in 3-4 days. From what I read it could be like this for a month or more. I'll be switching to other weed killer that does not make the lawn look so bad.

    By Sid on 05/30/2020

it would turn crab grass and nutsedge white but then they would get their green back in a few weeks. i tried 3 applications. for this much money i would just get 2-4-d instead. that seems to kill most things and try crab grass killer.

    Well worth it

    By Jake on 06/10/2020

So far I have applied it twice (2 / 2 application cycles on different portions of my lawn) , only tip I will say is be patient. It takes 2 weeks before you see results, But it is awesome stuff, and well worth the cost. I have tried many other things but this stuff just works. I mixed 4 oz into 15 gallons of water along with the recommended amount of Surfactant and used it on brand new lawn and established lawn in MN, waited 1-2 weeks between my 2 application. So far im thrilled with the results, works as advertised.

    Not working for me...

    By Jeff on 07/03/2020

I'm not sure how this product gets such great reviews but it is certainly not working for me. I have mixed it carefully, used the recommended surfactant, and applied as directed. No type of weed has been killed off yet. I am on my fifth (yes, fifth) application with Tenacity, waiting two weeks between. It seems to slow them down but never kill them off. The grassy weeds, like nutsedge and crabgrass, do turn white but then come back. The broadleaf types, like wild violet and plantain, have their edges turn brown but never die off. For an expensive, professional product, I am very disappointed.

    Not as Advertised

    By Pat on 08/07/2020

I used Tenacity as recommended with a NIS and at corrcet ratio's based on my acreage. It took roughly 3-4 days before the crabgrass started to lose color. It took about 5-6 days for the full bleaching. What is not advertised is that this product essentially works its way down to the root. So if you mow your lawn, you basically just wasted your time as the root is still not dead and can regrow. Maybe some people can forgo mowing for 2-3 weeks as it may fully kill the crabgrass, but in my sibdivision I can't. Wish I would've known beforehand. Definitely woudl not have bought this.

    Wasn't what I expected

Had to treat my lawn a few times. Went step by step and the weeds just didn't die. Still looking for a solution to my weed problem.

    Crabgrass killer

    By Bruce on 09/25/2020

I am not at all impressed. Could have done as well with a Scott's product from Lowes. I followed directions to a tee including a recommended surfactant. Two applications and less than half the crabgrass has died. This was a fairly expensive lesson. I guess I'll be culling by hand which I was trying to avoid.

    Had higher expectations

    By Lori on 10/02/2020

I hired a landscaper and asked him to use the Tenacity that I purchased. I watched a YouTube video that highly recommended the product. While the crabgrass visibly died back, all of the other weeds on my lawn flourished. The landscaper has since put down a granular product he prefers. I immediately noticed a difference. Since we are already in October, I didn't feel we had the time to try a second application of Tenacity because we still want to dethatch the yard, aerate, and seed. I may consider trying Tenacity as a pre-emergent in the spring.

    Don't Buy Waste Of Money

    By Jeff on 12/13/2020

Heard good things about this stuff. Bought it and the stuff that goes with it to try and kill dandelion, clover, and hop clover in my lawn. Fallowed the directions, and it didn't work. Biggest waster of $100 ever. Avoid at all costs.

    Waste product

    By Sree on 03/10/2021

Waste of your money, please read thoroughly all the information at the end you don't want to use it. The sprayed part of leaves/ weeds turn white but they will never die, it keeps growing.

    Works great on bentgrass

    By Dennis on 08/23/2015

Just as others have described, the bentgrass begins to turn white in a week to 10 days, then dies off. The surrounding bluegrass is unaffected. This is my first application and I see a few places that were missed so will go over it again. It was mid-August when applied. Previous applications of "round-up" did not result in satisfactory control because the bentgrass always came back up from over the winter. Hopefully the Tenacity takes care of it. It's good that I have enough left to do another application in the spring.

    Wipes out nimblewill

    By Mike on 05/09/2016

I had nimblewill spreading across my yard at a rapid pace. Spot treating with Tenacity took care of the problem. It does take a while for it to work, so be patient. But it does work and won't kill other grasses!!! It destroys everything else you don't want in your yard, too. Great stuff.

    Amazing product!

    By David on 07/29/2016

I have tried pulling bent grass out, also treating it with all types of killers and nothing seemed to work until Tenacity. It takes a while to see the results, but it definitely works! I'm just hoping that it kills the root and doesn't return!

    Tenacity kills nimblewill and crabgrass

    By Dale on 09/08/2016

Tenacity not only kills the nimblewill, but does and excellent job as a post emergent on crabgrass. It actually kills the crabgrass quicker than the nimblewill.
