    Q
I have a northstar 16 gallon 2.2GPM 12 volt broadcast sprayer and want to spray my yard with Tendgard for ants and army worms and other insects. How much should I use per gallon?
    A
For Lawns, mix 0.4 to 0.8 fluid ounce of Tengard SFR in 4 to 25 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet.Use the higher rate for fast knockdown and increased residual control. Dense or excessive(greater than 3 inches) lawn height and arid conditions may require higher volume application rates. Repeat application if necessary. Application in combination with compatible surfactants or wetting agents may enhance penetration.

    Q
How long will Tengard SFR last in sunlight?
We live out in sunny Phoenix. How long will the product last before it begins to breakdown in sunlight?
    A
Tengard will hold up to sunlight and other outdoor elements roughly 30 days. You could get a longer residual than that but most homeowners need to reapply each month.

    Q
What is the best product to kill chiggers
I will be using your Tengard SFR One Shot with an Ortho Dial N Spray hose end sprayer. This sprayer has adjustable settings from 1 tsp to 8 oz. Which setting would be right for lawn control? I might need to go a little heavy because of the country setting I live in.
    A
When using Tengard in a dial in sprayer you want to set the dial to 1oz per 1 gallon of water for 1000 sq. feet of treatment.

  • Asked by Mike from Tampa, Fl

    Q
What insect growth inhibitor is most recommended for outdoor flea control when mixed with Tengard?
Are there other products that are more effective for outdoor flea control on masonry surfaces and grass surfaces than Tengard? What provides the best residual effectiveness?
    A
The Tengard SFR is a great product to use for flea control in outdoor areas and you would want to mix NyGuard IGR with the spray. The NyGuard works great on fleas, ticks and many other insects and last longer outdoors than any other IGR on the market. According to the manufacturer it can hold up to sunlight for about 5 months so you would just spray it with the innitial application of Tengard then use the Tengard by itself with your follow up sprays ever 14-30 days. You will typically use 4-8 ml of NyGuard per gallon of water.

  • Asked by Jesus from Burlington,nc

    Q
Is Tengard SFR effective to treat an infestation of powder post beetles?
    A
You should use a wood treatment product to treat powder post beetles.  Bora-Care is the best wood treatment product available.  Bora-Care will penetrate through the wood and kill the larvae eating the wood no matter where they are in the wood.  However, it can only be applied to raw wood.  It cannot be applied to wood that is painted, stained, or sealed.  If your wood is painted, stained, or sealed, then you will need to drill holes and inject Bora-Care or sand the finish off of the wood, treat with Bora-Care, and then refinish the wood. Dominion is not a wood treatment product and will not move through the wood.  You should use a wood treatment product like Bora-Care

    Q
    Does Tenguard kills roaches?
    A
Yes Tengard would kill roaches and can be used indoors and outdoors. If you have a heavy problem with roaches, consider one of our Roach Control Kits as this would be a much more effective option to control the roach infestation the quickest and cheapest way. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Asked by Tom from Clearwater, Fl

    Q
Is Tengard SFR the best product for indoor treatment of Subterranean Termites?
If this is not the best, which is the best with regards to safety to occupants, especially children? Also, how often should you retreat indoors? Thanks!
    A
We recommend using either Termidor SC or Dominion 2L for the most effective termite treatments. Both of those products are non-repellent and both have a transfer effect meaning that the termites cannot tell that the product is in place and will readily walk through it and transfer it back to the colony. The Tengard SFR  will only kill the workers that contacted the treated surface and is also somewhat repellent. It also does not have a transfer effect.  Typically for indoor termite infestations, you need to drill a hole directly into the infested piece of wood and inject the product however you can.  You should drill into the exact center of the wood.  We do sell a foam product already in a can for termites that is very popular.  It is called Termidor Foam and comes ready to go with an applicator tip.  It can take up to 90 days to completely eliminate an infestation.  Most people just wait and do inspections every so often and only treat when they have an issue

Tengard can be used as a preslab treatment. This treatment will last for about 5 years after the application. Please read over the Tengard product label application instructions to learn how to apply the product for this application.

  • Asked by Kaz from Bernardsville, Nj

    Q
What product is good to treat flying moths for my rug store?
    A
We do not recommend treating for this insect with Tengard SFR. If it is a rug warehouse/large area, we would recommend a combination of monitoring traps and a fogger such as Shockwave applied monthly. The Shockwave would help to control any existing pests with both a quick knockdown and an insect growth regulator to help stop reproducing and the traps would help you to know when a new population moves in. You can also consult with some other rug dealers to find out what they have found effective.

    Q
Wood boring bees in treated wood. Can I spray the wood with something to do away with them?
    A

We have a Carpenter Bee Kit that is our most popular product(s) for carpenter bee control.  The kit comes with a dust and a hand duster to apply in the existing holes.  The dust will kill any carpenter bees that are in the holes and will kill the larvae when they hatch.  After a few days all of the adult carpenter bees that are in the holes will die.  You can patch the holes at this point.  The kit also comes with a liquid concentrate that you mix with water and apply using a one gallon hand pump sprayer.  You should treat all of the fascia boards or any surfaces that the carpenter bees seem to be going after.  This will prevent any new holes.  When a carpenter bee lands on the wood surface to make a new hole, it will pick up the product you sprayed on its body and die when it grooms itself.  Carpenter bees are only around for a short time in the spring, and then again in the fall.  You will have to apply both times of the year and then after 2 seasons there will not be any more larvae in the wood.

    Q
I purchased Tengard as a band treatment
Terminix used to spray Cyfluthrin.007% as a band treatment; Deltamethrin .05% crack and crevice treatment hand duster; Lambda-Cyhalothrin .045% perimeter band treatment; and boric acid 5%mother earth granular scatter bait. I purchased Tengard from you guys and I was wondering if I needed any of these other chemicals since, thanks to you, I am now doing the pest control on my own. thank you
    A
Tengard is a 36.8% permethrin, which will kill a broad range of common household pests. It does help to have an insecticidal dust such as Delta Dust (deltamethrin 0.05%) in deeper cracks and crevices as these are traget places that insects like to hide and harbor. Also, if you have a specific pest that is more commonly a problem in your home, knowing that will help us know if you need additional or other products in your treatment.

    Q
Is Tengard or Bora Care best to treat stress trees from beetle invasion? or straight permethrin
We have dozens of trees subjected to latestest CA drought, which are susceptible to beetle infiltration, which is fatal. Tengard has been suggested locally, but from your QA section you mentioned Bora Care is better, but did not mention what is best for live trees. We have a short window to be proactive, and want to make the most informed decision. Also, is straight Permethrin an option? Pro and cons so we can proceed. Thanks
    A
BoraCare is only labeled to be used on cut wood, not live trees. Tengard SFR is a permethrin based product and would be a great choice for helping to prevent an infestation.  The tree should be sprayed from the ground to 15 ft up the trunk to prevent future infestations

    Q
Do I reapply the same amount of Tengard to the lawn if it rained 4 hours after the original application?
I live in the tropics, weather is unpredictable. I applied Tengard about 8:00 am but it rained around noon. If the following day is sunny, do apply the same amount of Tengard again?
    A
Tengard SFR can hold up to rain. It is important to have 24 hours before the application and 24 hours after the application rain free. Check your local weather forecast prior to making the re-application of the product in the lawn.

  • Asked by Angela from Fort Collins, Colorado

    Q
I asked earlier if Talstar P was safe to use on outdoor cushions. The response was it is not to be used on
furniture and what I'm treating for. I am treating for bird mites. I take care of feral cats and they are constantly being infested with bird mites. I am only able to catch one of the cats to treat with Revolution. The cats love to lounge om the cushions. I was hoping for a residual treatment that would be safe to apply to the cushions. If I use DE the cats won't go near the cushions and I want them to be able to as they enjoy sitting on them, in the sun.
    A
Have you had a proper identification for these pests? It is likely that cats would not carry bird mites. We would recommend getting these identified for sure so that we can give you a proper treatment plan.

    Q
How does Tengard compare to Dragnet?
Since Dragnet is not going to be made and sold how does Tengard ?
    A
Both Dragnet and Tengard are still in production, and both products contain 36.8% permethrin. Dragnet is manufactured by FMC, while Tengard is a generic made by United Phosphorous, Inc. The only differences would be in the non-active ingredients, but the basic dilution rates and uses are exactly the same for both products.
