    Q
How do I use Termidor SC to get rid of termites in my front door trim?
My husband is having trouble on how to apply it. What is the best way to do this?
    A
You can mix Termidor SC in a one gallon hand pump sprayer and apply directly as a spot treatment to the affected area.  You can do this by taking the trim off and spraying the termites directly, or by drilling a hole and spraying in the wall void.  The bigger issue though is that your home has probably not had a termite treatment recently to protect it against termites in the first place.  You should read our "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article to learn how you can protect the rest of your home against future invasion.

    Q
How long will it take to be safe after spot treating with Termidor SC?
I noticed subterranean termites on my window sill. They were pretty bad, so I removed the drywall inside. When I spray the studs inside with Termidor SC, do we need to leave the house to be safe. If so, how long? Should I install the drywall and insulation right after I spray? I'm also treating the outside by digging a trench and drilling holes every 10 inches like you suggest.
    A
Termidor SC is a very safe product and widely used by professional companies inside homes every day across the country.  Termidor SC is odorless and does not have any fumes.  As long as you applied the product as directed inside the wall, you do not have to leave the home.  We always recommend leaving the room after applying any product and just allow enough time for it to dry which is usually about 30 to 45 minutes.  As far as replacing the drywall, you can do so usually after 24 hours when everything has had time to dry out.  If you replace the drywall too soon before the wall has dried, you can have moisture issues which can lead to mold.  24 hours is usually plenty of time for everything to dry out.

    Q
Can Termidor SC be used in a crawl space?
We have an old log house that sits directly on the ground. When I use the trench method, it is possible/likely some of that material will run of into the crawl space. I have read it is not intended for indoor use, but it is not clear on crawl spaces.
    A
Termidor SC can be used in crawlspaces. There are complete instructions on the Termidor SC product label (page 5) on how to use the product in the crawlspace, so if a bit inadvertently goes into the crawlspace it should not pose a problem.

    Q
Treating crawl space with Termidor SC?
I'm getting ready to encapsulate my crawl space. Should I put a barrier down around the perimeter inside or just do the exterior? I don't want to later wish I would have done the crawl space before it's too late
    A
We agree with you...we would absolutely recommend doing the crawl space with Termidor by trenching the inside perimeter and around all of the piers, and treat just as you would around the outside.  Once your crawl space is encapsulated you will not be able to treat again.  This also greatly limits inspections of the crawl space for termites in the future so we recommend keeping a close eye upstairs in the living space on the first floor for any activity.

    Q
Does Termidor work at home on scorpions?
If sprayed on outside of home as a residual will it keep scorpions out?
    A
Termidor is not labeled to treat scorpions and will not kill them quickly at all.  Therefore it will not prevent scorpions from getting in your home.  We recommend using Equil Lambda that is in our Scorpion Control Kit.  It has a much quicker kill than Termidor and will last longer outdoors than Termidor will.

    Q
Do you add Termidor to water? How much does a 20 oz. bottle cover?
    A
For Termite or ant control, mix at a rate of .80 fl oz. to each gallon of water. For Termite Control, each 20 oz bottle will make 24 gallons of solution and treats 60 lineal feet of trenching.

    Q
Is the application procedure of Termidor SC the same for Carpenter Ants as termites?
When reading the instructions for Termidor SC, it says to make a trench for termites. Is the same procedures applies for dealing with carpenter ants? I read that you apply it on the ground and 1 to 2 feet above the ground. Is this correct? When doing a perimeter spray how does one deal with a wooden deck and a concrete driveway because you can not trench them?
    A
If you are treating for Carpenter Ants, you will spray around the perimeter of the house as you described, 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home. If you are treating for termites, you will need to make a 6 inch x 6 inch trench right up against the foundation and pour in 4 gallons of diluted Termidor SC for every 10 ft of trench. We recommend that you read our article How To Do a Termite Treatment to learn how to deal with porches, decks and driveways when performing a termite treatment

    Q
I have a lemon & apple trees 3 feet from the foundation where the Termidor SC will be injected.
Will fruit from these trees ever be safe to eat? Do I need to remove the trees? Or discard the fruit from the next season?
    A

Termidor SC  bonds to the soil and does not move once it is applied.  Therefore, it can be applied where a well or garden is present as long as it is more than 10 feet away from the well or garden or tree.  We would suggest not applying Termidor SC along the side of the house that is within 10 feet of the trees.  You should keep a close eye on this area of the house for termites, or you can of course always install some Termite Bait Stations in that area for monitoring activity.

    Q
Can I use Termidor on a screened porch that my pets have free access to?
I use Termidor to make a perimeter around my house for ants, roaches, and other general insects. I spray about 3 ft. up and 3 ft. out on the ground. Can I use this the same way in a screened porch that my pets (cats) have free access to or should I use an indoor/outdoor product instead? If I use Termidor, pretty much all of the floor of the porch would be sprayed where the pets walk and sit. I use Suspend to make a perimeter inside the house and could use that instead on the screened porch.
    A
Termidor SC should not be used in the screened porch as that is considered an "indoor use" which is prohibited on the product label (unless it is used in wall voids). We recommend that you do stick to using the Suspend SC on the screened porch.

    Q
What are alternative uses of Termidor?
Is Termidor, when diluted with 1 part Termidor, 1 part Alcohol, and 1 part water, usable as a flea and tick treatment on dogs, cats, etc. applied to the back of the animals? Other than a termite, ant and wood ant, what are the other uses of Termidor?
    A
There are no alternative used for Termidor.  Termidor is not labeled for use on pets and should not under any circumstances be used than for any uses on the product label.  It is illegal to use a product other than what is stated on the product label.  Termidor is labeled for termites, ants, and other invading insects and is only allowed to be applied as a perimeter barrier around your home.

    Q
What do you recommend for a drywood termite infestation on a beam in the garage?
After inspections by three different companies all have found signs of infestation only in this location, but two of them recommend fumigation, one will do spot treatment with Termidor for a lot of money. What method do you recommend for DIY?
    A
If this is the only area, then Termidor would be a great choice.  Termidor does not penetrate through wood, so you cannot just apply it on the wood.  The trick is you have to drill holes into the center of the wood and inject it so it touches the termites.  As long as it only touches a few termites it will work.  You will only use a small amount of the Termidor, which is a concentrate, but the product will last for 5 years on the shelf and is also the best product for treating ants around your home as well.

    Q
How can we treat carpenter ants nesting inside our walls?
We have carpenter ants nesting in our walls in our kitchen and dining room. The baseboards are currently off, as we are tiling the rooms. Could Termidor SC be used in the opening between the floor and baseboards to eliminate the carpenter ants in their nests? What other products could work effectively?
    A
You can use Termidor SC indoors for carpenter ants in wall voids only. You cannot spray the baseboards or anywhere else in your home. You will need to spray directly into the wall void by drilling small holes in the wall. Other products that work effectively indoors would be Phantom Aerosol or carpenter ant baits like Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel or Advance Carpenter Ant Bait both of which are sold in our Carpenter Ant Bait Kit #1.

    Q
Is the Termidor application going to kill the ants? Should I re-apply since it rained several days later?
I discovered carpenter ants browsing around the stacked firewood logs. I suspect they might have a nest in one of them, but I didn't look for it. Anyway, I sprayed diluted Termidor around the logs to protect them - on the ground and on the bottom part of the logs. It rained on the third day of the application. My 2 questions are: 1)Is the Termidor application going to effectively kill the ants? 2) Should I re-apply since it rained several days later?
    A
Termidor SC should help eliminate any carpenter ants as long as they are crossing over the treated areas. As long as the Termidor had a chance to dry before it rained there is no need to reapply the product.

    Q
Does Termidor SC kill black widows, brown recluse, tarantulas, and scorpions besides ants and termites?
I have a lot of black widow spiders, scorpions, and tarantulas around the house in addition to ants. I'd like to know if I can use Termidor SC to kill them keep them away from the house since I will be buying for ants/termite protection.
    A
Termidor Sc is labeled for black widow and brown recluse spiders but it is not labeled for scorpions or for tarantulas. Termidor SC does not have an immediate knockdown but instead uses a delayed reaction kill which makes it especially effective for social insects like ants, termites and certain species of wasps. You should note that we are not aware of any product that is labeled for tarantulas.

    Q
Hand-held sprayer vs commercial one when applying Termidor SC?
Should I be worried if I use a hand-held sprayer vs ask a pest control company to inject Termidor into the concrete slabs? Plus how would I keep track to make sure 0.4 gallon per hole is poured in?
    A
To apply Termidor in the slabs you want to drill holes 18in deep and 12 in. apart and disperse the 4 gallons mixed solution per 10 feet into those holes. You can use any type of sprayer to inject the solution into the slab. The B&G Accuspary with termite injection tip would be very helpful when injecting the solution into the slabs.

    Q
Can you use Termidor SC for carpenter ants
Is termidor suitable against carpenter ants and what is the mixture ratio
    A
Yes, Termidor will treat carpenter ants. You want to mix .80 fl oz. for each gallon of water. Please follow the label instructions as Termidor is only labeled as an ant treatment to be used above ground to the exterior foundation walls of your house, creating a treated area of protection for excellent ant control. And only to be applied twice a year.

    Q
How deep should the trench be for an outside Termidor treatment?
The basement is five feet below the grade level, and I believe on the slab. I found active termites in the basement, they are very close to the walk out door frame and in the nearby side wall. How deep should the trench be for an outside Termidor SC treatment?
    A
The trench around the exterior of the house only needs to be 6 inches deep.  It is not realistic to dig a 5 foot deep trench and no company would do this either.  On the inside of the basement, it would probably be a good idea to drill through the slab of the basement along the wall that is below grade and apply Termidor SC through the slab and/or treat the termites directly in the wall where the activity is.

    Q
I found a black widow on my kids wooden swing set, will Termidor SC work on wood as a treatment?
I use it on the perimeter of my house. I found a black widow with eggs in a hole on the frame of my kids wooden swing set (pre-drilled holes). I've taken care of the spider and eggs. The holes are big enough for spiders but small enough that the spider's body touches the sides of the hole. If I apply Termidor SC inside the holes as a preventive measure, will the product stick to the wood? Will it work just like it does on the foundation of my home, and would the spray (residue) on the wood kill the spiders?
    A
Termidor SC is labeled for black widow spiders specifically but it cannot be used on play equipment. Termidor SC can only be used on or immediately around the foundation of a structure. We do not recommend using any type of insecticide on the play equipment. We do recommend sealing the holes so that spiders cannot nest there. You can treat the areas around the play equipment with a product such as Talstar P to keep crawling insects from making the play-set their home. Knock down any spider web as soon as you see them to discourage spiders from nesting in unwanted areas.

My lawn has too many ants. Can I spray treat the entire lawn?
My lawn has too many ants. Can I spray treat the entire lawn with the Termidor SC? If I can, what is the mixing ratio? Is it still 0.8 oz for every gallon of water? Thanks
    A
No. Termidor SC can only be used on or immediately around your home. Termidor SC is not labeled for use in your yard. You may want to consider using an ant bait granule such as Advance 375A or an insecticide granule such as Talstar PL for ants in your yard.
