    Q
Can Termidor SC be applied on grass in the yard for fire ant treatments?
    A

Termidor SC cannot be applied on the grass in the lawn for treating any insects including fire ants. It is labeled for applications up against the structure for other ant species and crawling insects as well as in the soil for termite applications. It is not labeled for treating fire ants. We do carry products that can be applied for control of fire ants. Please take a few moments to review our article on How to Get Rid of Fire Ants for more details.

    Q
Is this safe to use if you live over your well?
My well is 75 ft deep and is located @10-12 feet from the corner of my house. Will this eventually get down to the water level and contaminate the water? Should I stay so many feet away from the pipe? The directions say just 3 feet.
    A
The Termidor label states that you should stay a minimum of 5 feet from any well or cistern you are treating near. Termidor is a soil bonding product so once you place the product in the soil/trench and it dries, it is going to stay where you put it for at least the next 10 years. It does not get washed away by rain once it has dried and bonded. On average the most the product will penetrate down through the soil when trenching, is 6 feet directly down from the area where it was poured.

    Q
I just purchased Termidor for Outside barrier for Ants and other Bugs and Demand for Interior
I was wondering about chemical usage. I have recently purchased demand and termidor. Termidor for outside use around the foundation and Demand for inside use and outside used around windows and roof peaks and around doors. Is this the way these chemicals should be used or could I use Termidor for all of my spraying on the outside of the house structure? I am trying to control ants and carpenter ants and also waterbug roaches. I have also bought the Carpenter ant package #1 and Drione powder for where I know that I have seen a nest in the yard.
    A
You should use the Termidor SC all around the immediate exterior of your home, 1-2 ft up the foundation and 1-2 ft out onto the ground, around door frames, window frames, places where cables, pipes or wires go through the wall and any other crack or crevice where the ants can gain entry into your home. Do not spray Demand in the same exact area where you have applied the Termidor SC or you will make the Termidor Sc less effective. You can use the Demand SC in the indoor locations you mentioned.

    Q
Do you have to treat the interior of the garage if there is no activity of subterranean termites in it?
This is in regards to a full treatment at a home structure
    A
You can do that if you choose, but it is not as effective as drilling the slab inside the garage.  This is because the garage is a separately poured slab, meaning the termites could come from deep underground and come up to the surface under the garage slab, and enter the wall where your door is going into the house untouched.  You don't have to drill every wall in the garage, just the walls that are not exterior walls, where you have living space on the other side of the garage wall.  So it is a personal choice, but drilling the garage walls is the best way to protect all entry points.

    Q
    Brick Basement Treatment
My home was built in 1923 and has a full basement with brick walls. I started removing some wood walls and noticed live termites where one of the wood walls was attached to the brick. The termites were entering right where the brick wall meet the concrete floor through a cracked mortar joint. This entry point is aprox 4 feet below grade. I have ordered product to do a perimeter treatment of the house. Is there anything special I need to do in addition to the standard perimeter treatment since the termites are entering the basement so far below grade?
    A

If you are doing a perimeter treatment and there is a basement below grade, then the recommended treatment would involve rodding in addition to the standard 6 in x 6 in trench. A professional company would use a long rod attached to a truck spray rig to inject more termiticide every 12 inches to a depth of at least 4 feet. Since a homeowner does not have those tools, you could use a hollow rod or pipe, or a long drill bit (18-24 inches) to help create space to force more termiticide into the ground, ideally at least what you would use for regular treatment, which averages about ½ gallon of solution every 12 inches.

    Q
How wet do I spray Termidor SC: just fog it or real wet?
    A

When apply Termidor SC as a perimeter spray, apply at a rate of 1.5 gallons of solution per 1,000 square feet, using 0.8 ounces of concentrate per gallon of water. You should spray to evenly cover with a low-pressure coarse spray, so you do not need to drench the areas you are treating. Termidor SC should be used in a pressurized sprayer, not in any type of fogging or misting machine. For general perimeter treatments with Termidor SC, see the last two pages of the product label.

    Q
Is Termidor SC or CyKick CS better for black ants and dry wood termites?
Which product has less of an odor?
    A

Cy-Kick CS is a great product, but Termidor SC is the preferred product for your situation. Termidor SC is a non-repellent insecticide that also has a transfer effect, this means that the ants will not know that Termidor SC has been applied, and therefore cannot avoid the treated area and as they come into contact with other ants they will spread the insecticide and wipe out the colony. Termidor SC can also be used for drywood termites. It is important to remember that you must apply the product into the spaces that these termites will actually come into contact with it. That could mean that you would need to drill into the wood or possibly even foam the product into the space. We have never had a complaint about the smell of Termidor SC and the MSDS says that it is odorless.

    Q
I live in south TX, will Termidor SC work for the termites down here?
Also, today I saw a 5 inch line of holes in one of my outer walls thru the outside on the side of my house. I had a couple of old boards and moved them and saw they had a lot of termites. I killed most of them by stepping on them and took the boards to my truck to get thrown away, How can I battle the ones inside my walls?
    A

Termidor SC is labeled for all types of termites.  How you use it is determined by the species of termites you are dealing with.  If you have termites in your home, we recommend doing the liquid treatment as outlined in the "How To Do A Termite Treatment" article and then inside the home where you know you have the termites you will treat them directly by injecting the Termidor into the wall or cutting a hole into the wall and spraying on the wood or however you can get the product to the termites. It only needs to touch a few termites to work.

    Q
How to treat home with full basement, brick siding, and hollow block wall with solid cap?
One side of basement hollow block wall is almost completely under ground (7 feet). Brick does not go underground on that side but does on the other sides. Half of the basement is finished so there is no access to the hollow block walls in that section which includes half the wall that is almost completely underground. My house was built in 1982 and at some point block walls were drilled as was the attached garage slab. I have owned for 20 years. What should my trench goal be? Should I be concerned with creating a 1-foot deep barrier or do I attempt to reach the footing 7 feet below the surface? The finished portion of basement has drop tile ceiling and every year I inspect and find no termite evidence. But we do have termites in wood pile which is 60 feet from house.
    A
First, please review our Barrier treatment article.   You still want to trench 6inx6in all the around the perimeter. You do not have to reach the footer. In places you cannot trench you would drill every 12 in using a 18 in long 1/2 inch wide drill bit. It is fantastic that you keep up with your inspections. Unfortunantly, many areas of the U.S. are prone to termites. It is very common to find termites out in the yard. The best way to protect your home from termites would be with this barrier treatment using Termidor SC. Once in the soil Termidor will bind with it and last up to 10 years. Each 20 oz bottle will give you 60 feet of trenching.

    Q
How long is Termidor SC in soil a problem for a vegetable garden?
We had Termidor applied to our soil a little over 5 years ago. We just planted a vegetable garden in the soil where it was applied. Do we need to discard and start over with new soil or has enough time passed? Does it wear off? Also if we handled the soil, is that a problem? We have a 5 year old who wants to do the gardening.
    A
You should not plant anything edible in the same soil that was treated with Termidor SC. Termidor SC persists in soil for at least 10 years and it is not labeled to be used in places where edible plants will be grown. If you really do want to plant a vegetable garden in an area that was treated with Termidor SC you will need to remove all of the soil and replace it with untreated soil. You should note though that if the soil is removed and it is in the termite treatment barrier zone you will be left with a hole in your termite barrier.  When handling the soil it would be recommended to wear gloves and to wash hands thoroughly after.
