    Q
What is the best way to eliminate a termite infestation?
I've lived in the house for twenty years, and used termite stakes for the last ten years along the back of the house that faces the woods. Today, I found termites swarming in the laundry of the first floor in the FRONT of the house. I don't see any dirt tubes, so I don''t know how they got in. Will Termidor SC with a trench application around the foundation kill the termites in the house? Or do I need to use foam? If I need to use foam, how is it applied?
    A

Termidor SC is applied in a trench and in drilled holes directly around all sides of the structure. It will take approx. 90 days to kill any active colonies depending on their size. You can apply Termidor Foam in the wall voids in the sheet rock to spot treat activity. Please read the article below for more information on treating termites.

    Q
How much Termidor SC to spray inside walls?
For doing spot treatments do you have a recommendation for the concentration and volume of Termidor to spray into each 8 foot tall 16" on center stud wall cavity?
    A
There is no specific amount, but when treating wall voids, you should apply the same concentration as you would anywhere else, which is a .06% solution. This is .8 ounces of Termidor per gallon of water.  As far as the amount and method, termites will be entering the structure from underground near the floor.  Since we know this, it is wasteful to drill a hole near the middle of the wall void.  This will just wet your sheet rock and potentially cause damage.  Since we know the termites are entering from the bottom of the void, where the studs and sill plate are, you should drill holes about every 6 inches directly above the baseboard so when you apply Termidor in the void, it is going directly on the wood where the termites are, and not being soaked up by sheet rock or insulation.  Typically you should hold down your sprayer trigger for about 7 to 10 seconds per hole and that should be sufficient.

    Q
    Termidor for active infestation
I have an active termite infestation. I can see the mud tubes where the termites are currently entering my house. They are in a crawl space area which I have access to, but it would be difficult to use the trench method because the space is so tight. Would it be reasonable to saturate the mud tubes and nearby soil with termidor as an immediate fix and then use bait stations around the perimeter of the house for long term treatment?
    A

We would recommend doing a trench treatment around your home for an active infestation of termites.  We have a helpful article on How to Get Rid of Termites that we recommend reviewing for the best advice.

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the needed personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together 2 different safety kits that will make selecting correct safety gear easier for you.

    Q
Is Termidor SC safe to use around kids?
Do I need to wear personal protective equipment when doing this job?
    A

As long as you keep pets/children out of the area while you treat and until the Termidor SC application has had time to completely dry or settle it is safe for pets and people to return and resume normal activity.  Typically after 4-6 hours. Please be sure to read the product label to get complete information on the needed personal protective safety gear you will need. Q
What precautions do I need to take when applying Termidor SC?
I will be applying Termidor SC by myself and I have a spray bottle and the correct mixing ready to be set up. How should I take precautions to protect myself during application. Should I wear certain clothing with face mask and head covered?
    A
The best way to protect yourself when using any type of insecticide is to read and follow the product label. Page 2 of the Termidor SC product label specifically tells you what precautions need to be taken before, during and after the application. You only need to wear a face mask if you will be doing the application in a poorly ventilated or enclosed area. All other applications will require you to wear long sleeves, long pants, shoes and socks and gloves. Be sure to wash your hands after the application before you eat, drink, chew gum or use the restroom.
