We recommend doing a complete Termite Barrier Treatment if you are seeing signs of termite activity. Using Termidor SC will give you a 10 year barrier treatment against subterreanean termites. Termidor SC is applied in a trench and in drilled holes directly around all sides of the structure. It will take approx. 90 days to kill any active colonies depending on their size. You can apply Termidor Foam in the wall voids in the sheet rock to spot treat activity. Where there is concrete you will need to drill directly into the slab. This includes patios and garages. Please read the article below for more information on treating termites.

    Q
How can I use Termidor SC when I have a slate patio against the house 10ft by 15ft.
So you can't remove slate and side view of said patio connects to concrete steps and the makeup of said patio looks like rock/concrete. I notice subterranean terminated along side surface of patio. Will drill down through top of patio through slate reach the intended termites?
    A

To treat areas with Termidor SC that have a soil to foundation interruption such as a patio, you would drill holes in the patio using a ½ diameter concrete drill bit that is 18-24 inches long.  The holes will be drilled every 12 inches and filled at a rate of 4 gallons of finished solution every 10 feet, just like you were doing in the trench.

    Q
Can you clarify perimeter use v. property use?
We have an in ground pool in our backyard that has a partial mahogany deck about 4” from the ground. The deck butts up to large field stones set in the soil surrounding the rest of the perimeter of the pool. Mulch paths and beds of ornamentals landscape the pool going outward from the deck and stones. All types and sizes of ants live under the rocks and deck and are quite a nuisance when we sit on the side of the pool. I see that use of Termidor SC is limited to foundations but I'm wondering if spraying it under and around the perimeter of the rocks and deck would be appropriate, or somehow dangerous. Also, we had several 80' trees taken down about 8 years ago. The tree service left us a large piece of one of the trees for projects that we never got to and now the wood is disintegrated; it looks like carpenter ants. Would spraying Termidor SC on and around the wood be helpful in killing the nest? The area is about 60' from our house and removal isn't an option. We can't put out any type of bait since our Rottweiler will dig up and eat anything that even remotely smells like food. Don't know what else to do. Thanks for your input.

Termidor is very limited on the areas it can be used. You are allowed for general insect control to spray only directly against a structure on your property 1-2 feet up and out. You do have the ability to drill holes directly into the dead trunk and inject termidor into the carpenter ant galleries to take care of that infestation. You will need to make sure you keep pets and children away from the treated areas until it has time to dry. If you are looking for a product that you can use more freely around your home for ant control as well as other insects, we would recommend Talstar P. It works extremely well, dries clear, is non-staining and non-irritating, and you have a much wider usage area. Talstar can be sprayed around the foundation of the home, along walkways and driveways, on ornamentals/trees/lawns for insect control as well as indoors around baseboards and crevices. It can also be used in the same method as termidor on the carpenter ant colony in the dead tree. For more information on usage rates and areas you can refer to the product label.

    Q
How do I eliminate the ants on my property?
I have a problem with ants on my property. I believe they are Argentine ants. I see them in lines on the concrete, on the lawn edging, on the fence, and now they are pushing up dirt in my flower beds that have decorative rock. Can I spray away from my house (where most of the ants are) or should I only spray it at the foundation?
    A

Termidor SC is only labeled to be used around a structure and cannot be sprayed further than 6 inches from it, in California. Arilon Insecticide can be used around the perimeter of the home and you could expand the band around the perimeter, for example: you can spray 3 feet up on the foundation and 7 feet out. The active can also be transferred from one ant to another and can be used for direct mound treatments if necessary, as well as surfaces commonly used by ants for foraging such as outdoor edges/frames of windows, doors, utility penetrations, roof lines or eaves, and other structural edges may also be treated. In addition to exterior structural elements, outdoor nesting sites such as refuse collection areas, flower/mulch beds, adjacent tree holes, surrounding turf areas, crawl spaces, or other nest/ foraging sites, and foraging trails can be treated.

    Q
How to treat for termites in Arizona. Different ground cover around home
The majority of the perimeter of my home is rock over dirt. I have a landscaped area in my backyard with pavers going up to the foundation of the house. How do i treat this type of area?? Also, in my front yard there is a walk way going to the front door. Since i obviously can't dig up the concrete, do I treat on the outer side of the concrete walkway which is away from the foundation?? What about my garage and driveway areas? Thank you very much.

The answer to this question is also in our How To Do A Termite Treatment Article. You will want to use the Termidor product. For your concrete areas against the home, you will need to get the termiticide underneath the concrete against the foundation. To do this you will need a hammer drill with a 1/2" x 18" drill bit. You drill holes throughout the concrete about 3-4 inches away from the wall or foundation, and about every 10"-12" apart. Once the holes are drilled, you fill at the same rate you did the trench, 4 gallons per 10 feet. To fill these I would recommend using the one gallon sprayer on a "pin stream" setting so you can force the liquid down the hole and not splash it everywhere. You can also use a funnel and pour the termiticide down the holes. It is difficult to get 4 gallons per 10 feet in the holes, so it is important that you use a long drill bit, at least 18" long so you can bore out enough dirt to hold the termiticide. Once the holes are filled all you need to do is patch them with a concrete patch filler you can buy at Home Depot or you can use our Trebor plugs that will close the hole with no concrete mess.

As for your areas with rock over dirt, again - you need to get the termiticide product down into the soil to be most effective. We recommend digging a 6in x 6in trench to pour the solution into the ground.
