    Q
We are treating an active termite infestation with Termidor. Other than exterior trenching, what should we do?
We've been told we have active termites under our house, which has a crawlspace foundation with concrete block piers. What should we do besides treating the exterior foundation with the Termidor SC? We've also been told that they are under the concrete steps. We have 10 rental properties and are trying to treat all of them.
    A
If you know where the termites are active we do recommend directly treating that area. You should trench and treat around the wall inside the crawl space and trench and treat around each pier for best results. Drilling through the concrete steps to apply Termidor to the area under the steps is needed as well as many contractors hide buidling debris in these areas and termites are known to frequent this area.

    Q
Is there a time a year that is better to treat for termites than another?
I'm considering using the barrier method.
    A
The best time  to treat for termties is after the winter in the spring. That is because it is easiest to apply a termiticide like Termidor SC when the ground is softer than when the groudn is frozen. Also, peak activity usually starts right as the winter is ending and into the spring. It really depends on your location.

  • Asked by Eddie from Arnold, Ca
    10/04/2013
    Q
Can Termidor SC be sprayed on fire wood and is it safe to burn after treatment
    A
No, you would not want to burn any wood that has been treated with Termidor SC or any other insecticide. The manufacturers do not recommend this. Any insecticide should not be breathed in, and when burned these toxins can become airborne. It would be suggested to not burn the wood.  Termidor is only labeled to be applied adjacent to a structure, you could use a product like Dominion 2L to treat the soil around the firewood for subterranean termites but not physically on the wood itself.

  • Asked by Steve from Austin, Texas
    10/04/2013
    Q
I am a homeowner in Texas. Is it legal for me to buy and apply Termidor around my home? Thanks, Steve
The label on the 20 oz bottle says "For sale to, use and storage only by individuals/firms licensed or registered by the state to apply termitcide and/or general pest control products." product? I just want to be sure. Thanks, Steve
    A
Some product labels do say for licensed pest professional use only but that is just the manufacturers wording and it is not law. The manufacturer would like to limit the purchase of the product to Pro's only because of course they will make more money on the products if they can only be sold to a select few. Each individual state gets to decide if a product can be used in the state and if so if they will restrict its use to professionals. On our website you will see several product that say "cannot be sold to NY, CT or other states and those are states that have restricted the use of the product by individuals. Other states do allow you to sue the product, but only on your own property. You cannot use the products to treat other peoples property for profit unless you are licensed. We are fully licensed to sell the products you see on our site and we are over seen by the department of agriculture.

    Q
Termidor SC sprayed on attic trusses
I have drywood termites in my home. A large national company wants to spray all the wood roof trusses in my attic with Termidor SC. Is this a feasible and effective treatment for drywood termites? Is this treatment safe for my family's health? Would the same attic spray application using Timbor be a more effective and safer solution?
    A

Termidor is only labeled to be used inside when treating an active infestion but it does not penetrate into the wood.  While we cannot comment on what a professional company is going to do, when treating for an active drywood termite infestation you must treat it directingly.

Both Termidor SC (fipronil for termites) and Bora-Care will work, but Bora-Care is typically the better one to use for this situation. Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product, so for it to work you have to drill holes EXACTLY where the termites are and it has to touch the termites to work.  If you miss where they are, it will not work.  Also, Termidor SC does not really have any residual in the wood, so after you treat inside the wood with Termidor SC and it dries, that wood is exposed for future termite and beetle infestations.

Bora-Care is usually the preferred choice if most of the wood is exposed and it is raw wood you are treating, meaning it is not painted, stained, or sealed, it is just normal wood.  Bora-Care is made only for wood, and you do not have to know exactly where the termites are for it to work which is a plus.  Bora-Care is sprayed evenly over all exposed surfaces of the wood and actually penetrates through the entire piece of wood.  When the termites in the wood try to consume the wood after it has been treated, they ingest the Bora-Care with the wood and die.  No matter where they are in the wood the Bora-Care will find them as long as you treated the exposed wood that you can see.  The other main benefit is that Bora-Care stays in the wood forever, so you will not have to worry about termites or beetles infesting the wood that you treated ever again

    Q
Which size hole needs to be drilled for Termidor treatment in slab and why?
I see 3/8 holes around my house already and most houses i've seen have 3/8 also. What is the benifit to a larger hole?
    A
You can apply Termidor SC in a 3/8 or 1/2 inch hole. Either would be the size drill bit that you will use to drill the holes for termite treatments. The benefit of having a larger hole is that the product will be applied quicker in the hole making the solution reach the soil quicker.

  • Asked by Rod from Lakeland, Fl

    Q
How do I treat areas where the foundation is covered by concrete?
    A

We recommend that you trench the areas where there is soil and drill 10-12" apart and inject the solution into those areas. You will disperse the same amount of finished solution in the drilled holes as you would the trench, 4 gallons of solution every 10 lineal feet. Q
Can I use Termidor SC if I put down something for carpenter ants and termites?
I found active termites and had some spectracide Termite and carpenter ant killer in ready to use bottle so I dumped the whole thing across a 15 ft. area. I did not dig out any dirt before dumping, I just dumped. Can I still use the termidor? This was about a month ago that I poured the stuff on the ground. I also needed to know how these commercial companys make such neat trenches, do you have any suggestions?
    A
We recommend that you check the product label of the product that was previously used in that area for the length of time of the residual prior to applying any product in that area. You may also call the manufacturer of the product for the information.

    Q
How do I spray Termidor after I drilled a hole in the concrete slab?
    A
You can apply Termidor SC in drilled holes using funnels and pouring the finished solution into the holes. It would take you a long time if you were spraying the product in the holes.

  • Asked by Belinda from Long Beach, Ca
    10/14/2013
    Q
Can Termidor SC be used on exterior wood?
    A
Termidor SC is not a wood treatment product and will not penetrate into wood if you are trying to treat for an active infestation.  It is meant to be applied to soil.  So spraying Termidor on exterior wood or any other surface will not do much.  If you are trying to take care of termites in wood, then you have to drill holes into the wood and inject the Termidor directly.  It has to come into contact with the termites in the wood to be effective.
If you are looking for a long lasting product to treat or protect wood you should check out Bora-Care.

    Q
How many bottles of Termidor SC do I need to treat my house?
Hi, I have 1550 sq ft house. I want to use a .09 solution. Approximately how many bottles of the termidor SC 20 oz bottle do I need? Thanks
    A
You must find out how many lineal feet you have around the outside or your home. Unfortunately, the square footage just will not tell us how much you really have to treat. To find how many lineal you have, measure around the front, back and each side of your home. Add up the measurements and now you will have the total lineal feet. Use 4 gallons of finished solution per 10 lineal feet around the house. For Example: A home with 200 lineal feet around the foundation would require 4 bottles of Termidor SC. Most homes require at least 4 bottles. For Termite control Termidor SC is mixed at a rate of .80 fl oz. for each gallon of water used and each 20 oz bottle will make 24 gallons of solution and treats 60 lineal feet of trenching.

    Q
NEW HOME FDN, have 264 lf of footings 24" wide @.8 oz per gallon i figure 4.4 bottles.
remainder of house is 2700 sq ft. per answer on page 221 says 10 sq feet per gallon which is 250 sq feet per bottle and would be 11 bottles to treat area under slab. thanks need to order next week if this correct.
    A
When building a structure you should apply Termidor to the entire area under where you are going to pour the slab.  You should apply Termidor at the rate of 1 gallon per 10 square feet.  You should apply slightly more around the perimeter edges and around any plumbing pipes or expansion joints that will be in the slab. Your calculations seem to be accurate based on the treatments you will perform. Please let us know if you need anything else 866.581.7378.

    Q
Can you use Termidor Sc inside your house for roaches?
It's for my mom's house they told me to use Termidor SC to eliminate the roaches inside the house. Thanks.
    A
Termidor SC is not labeled for indoor use. To treat roaches indoors we would recommend using one of our roach control kits. Please see our Roach control page. We highly recommend using a roach bair gel like Maxforce Fc Magnum and then a crack and crevice spray like Demon Wp indoors and out.

    Q
How long is Termidor SC in soil a problem for a vegetable garden?
We had Termidor applied to our soil a little over 5 years ago. We just planted a vegetable garden in the soil where it was applied. Do we need to discard and start over with new soil or has enough time passed? Does it wear off? Also if we handled the soil, is that a problem? We have a 5 year old who wants to do the gardening.
    A
You should not plant anything edible in the same soil that was treated with Termidor SC. Termidor SC persists in soil for at least 10 years and it is not labeled to be used in places where edible plants will be grown. If you really do want to plant a vegetable garden in an area that was treated with Termidor SC you will need to remove all of the soil and replace it with untreated soil. You should note though that if the soil is removed and it is in the termite treatment barrier zone you will be left with a hole in your termite barrier.  When handling the soil it would be recommended to wear gloves and to wash hands thoroughly after.

tremoder sc: After trenching will re-planting and watering a treated area compromise the termite treatment.
    need to know soon........thank you
    A
You should not dig up any area that is part of the Termidor treated barrier or you do indeed risk interrupting your barrier treatment. We recommend never planting within 6 inches of a home (where your trench is located), because this allows pests to hide and increases chances that they will invade your home too.

    Q
    Termidor Question
Hello: I would like to do a termidor termite treatment to my house. I have a brick house on hollow block concrete foundation with a termite shield flashing between the concrete and brick. Trenching would be a pain in the ass. If I drill into the blocks every foot and inject 0.4 gallons of termidor solution into each hole, will this sufficienty protect my house? What tool should I use to inject the termidor, just a rgular sprayer or a foaming one?
    A
It is very important to trench each side of the hollow blocks, even more important than drilling into each block to inject the Termidor solution. The problem is that the termites will be still be able to build tubes on the outer areas of the blocks and still access your home. Your treatments will be far more successfull if you trench and treat on either side of the hollow block. PLease let u sknow if you have any additional questions.

  • Asked by Todd from Decatur, Ga

    Q
Why do you say the trench only has to be 6"x6" when using Termidor as a barrier?
The product label states that termidor needs to be applied to a minimum depth of 4 feet? Confused?
    A
The only time that Termidor needs to be applied to a minimum depth of 4 ft is if the footer is more than 4 feet below grade. If you read further into the label you will see that a trench does not need to be wider that 6 inches and usually no deeper than 6 inches to acheive the needed barrier.
