I now use Contrac under a brick so they have to eat at least some of it, even if the are stashing some. I also have some in the garage which they eat. I've seen them twice and I think they're roof rats. They've been taking poisons for years!
We recommend that you set some rat traps such as Trapper T-Rex traps underneath the vehicles that they are gaining access into. You will also want to apply some wooden traps such as the Victor Rat Traps on the tires where they are accessing the engine. The Contrac should be applied away from the vehicles as the blocks contain food based ingredients that attract the rodents and in tamper resistant stations such as the Protecta Rat Bait Stations (within 50 ft of the structure).
