    Q
How much Timbor should I spray over the wood to be treated is enough? Can I apply either too much or too little?
    A
You only need to apply the Timbor solution so the wood is wet.  You should not apply the product so it starts to drip and runoff, that is too much.  Just enough to wet the surface and evenly coat all exposed sides of the wood, like you are spray painting it.

    Q
Where can I buy Borate or Tim-Bor in Canada(Hamilton,ON)
I've had work done in the basement and discovered powderpost beetles in one section and want to treat before we continue. PLEASE HELP!
    A

We apologize but we do not know of anywhere in Canada that carries the products we do.  Many of our Canadian customers will have a product shipped to someone in the United States that they happen to know like a friend or family member, and they they forward it onto Canada. We do offer FREE shipping within the US.

    Q
Can you dip stud or beams using Timbor?
Can new wood studs or beams be effectively treated by dipping in a tank filled with a Tim-bor solution frequently stirred so it remains in suspension? Could full immersion like this be more effective than spraying? It may also be quicker and more economical, with no overspray. Also, are oil-based or water-based sealers or paints better for sealing the dry treated wood and extending the life of the Tim-bor treatment, i.e., which type is preferred? Should any surface powder be brushed off for better adhesion before painting or sealed in?
    A

Yes you can use the dip method when using Timbor however, you will still be getting the same 15% solution rate as you would if you were spraying it on and getting the same 1/16" penetration level as well. To get the full penetration all the way through the wood we recommend using Boracare. Yes, you would want to get the surface powder left behind by the Timbor off the wood before using any finishing products.

    Q
Can Timbor be applied with a sponge or hand-pump sprayer?
I have a small cellar and would like to apply Timbor to the ceiling without having to buy or rent a tank and hose sprayer. Thank you.
    A
Timbor can be applied with a paint brush or a gallon pump sprayer. To create a 15% solution, mix 1.5 pounds of Timbor to one gallon of water. This solution ratio ensures that only one application needs to be performed. Please be sure to read the Timbor Product Label before use for complete instructions.

    Q
Will Tim-bor Professional work on treated wood?
    A

Tim-bor Professional cannot be applied to wood that is already finished with a stain, sealant, or paint. If the wood is pressure treated, there is no need to treat it with the product, however if you still would like to ,Boracare would be the product to use and expect it to absorb and dry slower than on raw untreated wood.

    Q
We have Timbor. Can we use it to treat plants for fungus and insects?
    A

Timbor can only be applied to raw wood.  It would likely kill any vegetation it was applied to.  If you are looking for something to apply to plants for fungus and insect control, you can use something like Bayer Advanced 3-in-1 Insect, Disease, and Mite Control.

    Q
Can I put finishes over a reclaimed fir beam after I treat it with Timbor on the interior of a home?
I have several big reclaimed fir (I think) beams going up on the inside of a new home. Can I put something like a clear finish over them after treating with Timbor, after it has dried completely?
    A

Yes, it is recommended that you use a finish and/or sealant after using Timbor. It will potentially dry with a texture so you may have to sand it first.

    Q
Can Timbor be mixed with ethylene glycol to help it penetrate into the wood? This would be less expensive than using Boracare.
    A

Timbor will only penetrate 1/4 inch into the wood since it is a powder.  It should only be mixed with water as directed on the product label.  If you do mix it with other products, it will clump and not work the way you would like it to.  If you need better penetration, Boracare is the only way to do so.
