    Q
Can Timbor be used to remediate dry rot? What percent solution should be used?
    A

Timbor should only be used on raw wood that ideally is new. Timbor is not water repellant and it will not take care of any rot or mold on the wood. Timbor will only penetrate 1/4 of an inch into the wood and will leave a visible white residue on the surface. Boracare or Boracare with Mold Care would be your best options. As with Timbor, the Boracare will need to be applied to raw natural wood but it can be old or new. The Boracare will penetrate all the way into the wood and will not leave a visible residue on the surface. If the wood is going to continue to be exposed to the outdoor elements, you will need to seal it with a stain or finish of some sort to protect it. If you do this, the Boracare will last for the life of the wood. Boracare will treat and prevent (depending on the rate you use to dilute it) for wood destroying insects such as powderpost beetles, termites, and carpenter ants, as well as wood destroying fungus/rot. The Boracare with Mold Care will cover all of these same preventative measures and it also kills and prevents mold. Please take a look at the Boracare product label for exact instructions for use. Q
How long does it take to dry and be ready for stain on a log home? This is in high-altitude Colorado.
    A

The dry time for Timbor honestly is dependent on the ability of the wood to absorb the product and how heavy you treat it. It could be a few hours before the surface of the wood is dry or even a day.

    Q
Can I spray Bora-care after my crawlspace has been treated with Tim-bor?
I'm having some for joists removed and replaced due to termite and dry rot damage. The company will spray with Tim-bor after they've completed the repairs. After they have sprayed the Tim-bor, can I go back and spray the same area with Bora-care?
    A

While you could technically apply Boracare on the same wood after Timbor is applied, we recommend skipping the Timbor application if Boracare is going to be applied soon after. Applying Timbor before applying Boracare would not provide any additional benefit. Similarly, if there is not any existing insect infestation in the wood, then a Timbor application will prevent the same issues as Boracare.

    Q
Can I paint or stain over Timbor?
    A

Any primer or paint can safely be applied to Timbor treated wood as long as Timbor is completely dry after treatment and dry to the touch.  There should be no issues once it is completely dried.

    Q
Can I apply primer over an area after staying it with Tim-bor?
    A

Any primer or paint can safely be applied to Tim-bor treated wood as long as Timbor is completely dry after the treatment and dry to the touch. Keep in mind that Timbor can leave a visible residue after it dries. If you need a clear and smooth result on the wood, then we recommend applying Boracare instead.

    Q
Can I use Tim-bor Professional to treat an antique settee infested with powder post beetles?
The branches of the settee have exit holes, and may be an active infestation. The largest branches are less than 2" in diameter. I have already purchased Timbor, but have learned that Boracare might provide better penetration. Would I be OK if I used Timbor, waited for a few weeks before removing any residue and then using a varnish. It will be used indoors.
    A

Tim-bor Professional will only penetrate ¼ inch into the wood so it would not be recommended to treat active infestations, only for prevention.  Boracare is a better option, as it will penetrate deeper and will dry clear when applied as directed.

    Q
Is timbor effective at killing silverfish? Also,is it ok to paint over plywood after treatment with timbor?
I asked about silverfish because after spraying the cracks of my garage framing,I noticed the silverfish running out of the cracks.
    A
Timbor is not actually labeled for silverfish though it may actually eliminate silverfish that come into contact with treated areas. Any primer or paint can be applied to Timbor treated wood as long as the Timbor application is completely dry to the touch.
