Incredibly effective trap!

I bought this trap to catch starlings which have invaded my bird feeders. They come in large numbers and bully the smaller birds. I was skeptical of this trap as some reviewers of it online mentioned how it was ineffective for them. I don't know what they are doing wrong. I took some peanut suet and broke it up by the entrances and placed more inside of the trap. In 2 days, i caught 20 birds. All were starlings. I didn't need to bend the funnel tines, but others have said they needed to. I'm my state, there is no limit to how many starlings you can catch as they are invasive and non native. I'm really impressed with this trap. It was worth the high price tag. If something happened to my current trap, i wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Tomahawk Starling Trap

The trap is working great! It is really helping me eliminate some of the immediate starling population in my area. I had some Red Belly Woodpeckers set up a nest in my back yard and the starlings immediately took over the nest, which was very upsetting. This prompted my purchase of the trap and I am very happy with the results! This invasive species needs to be eliminated whenever possible for the well being of native woodpecker populations. Love these traps!

The quality of these traps exceeded my expectations. Very well made and will last a life time if properly cared for. Have not put them to use yet, but I expect to trap hundreds of nasty starlings when the fledglings appear soon!

Started catching starlings right away!

Very satisfied with results, as soon as I placed suet in the trap as bait they came and I was able to eliminate several starlings. One tip is to place a rag or something in the openings as soon as you notice a trapped starling, I missed several that managed to escape before I figured that out.

We live in Ohio. This was a gift for my husband. When flocks of starlings started to appear this week he set the trap. Within the first few hours he captured 4 starlings. He followed bait and set up plans found on youtube. He had not adjusted the openings or blocked them quick enough so 3 escaped. Lesson learned. Thank you for quick delivery and fair pricing.

I wanted to purchase a Starling trap for a Christmas present for my son on the farm. Due to the pandemic DoMyOwn showed this item to have a long lead time on their website. I expressed my desire to have this item for Christmas and was told that they would check with the vendor to see if the item was available. As it turned out the vendor had it in stock, the item shipped directly to me from the vendor and I had it four days from placing my order. I couldn't expect better service than I received.

Trap came well intact from shipping and is reasonably well constructed. Not under or overbuilt. It looks like it would work well, but the user has to be smarter than the Starlings. At least the Starlings I'm trying to catch. I tried lazily putting it under the suet feeder so bits would fall into the trap. That way, the Starlings could set their own trap. Well, they only go for the suet feeder and aren't interested in going to ground for the bits in the trap. I imagine that if I removed the suet feeder and only left bait in the trap it would work better, but I have yet to do that because I have other birds also using the feeder. I just shoot the Starlings on the feeder one at a time. Anyways, smaller birds are able to move in and out of the trap just fine which I like. It appears as though Starlings would have trouble getting out due to their size, especially if startled. I think to get a bird as smart as a Starling I'd have to have bait in the trap and a trail to each entrance so they'll absent mindedly walk into trap. I think the instructions state as much.

I just took five more starlings out of my Tomahawk trap. That makes 55 in six days. The most I've had in there at one time was nine. When the trap arrived I bent the protruding wires in the entries to 1 1/2 inches wide. When I first set the trap I caught one starling using chicken scratch feed. There had been two in the trap but one escaped through the door so I bent the wires in a tiny bit more. I caught one more a day later. I then moved the trap closer to the area where I feed my ducks and roosters and baited it with Payback all-purpose poultry feed pellets. Since then, I've had a steady stream of caught starlings. This trap works great!! I read a few negative reviews before buying the trap, but I've learned that they were unfounded. The starlings can't escape from the trap although they certainly try. Finding the right bait is important and location of the trap also seems important. You might need to do some experimentation for best results, but for those who claim that the trap doesn't work--it's you, it's not the trap. This trap does what it was designed to do: catch starlings. By the way, I have been using this trap in February.

today, first day using the trap I caught two English Sparrows, two squirrels and three dark eyed juncos. The squirrels and one of the English Sparrows got away. Released the juncos. Just a matter of time before the Starlings find the trap. Will plug up the ends next time I catch a squirrel. Very happy to have caught the one English Sparrow.

Received my starling traps, thinking they were well made, but doubtful of their efficacy. Was I wrong. Caught 9 in one day. 4 initially and then 5 later in the day, using one trap. That was an admittedly good day, but the trap consistently catches starlings most every day. I never used any bait, but did locate the trap adjacent to my chicken feeder. The only downside was that a chicken, (chick) would sometimes wonder into the trap, and on a rare occasion, a starling would escape. Couldn't ask for more. Works really well.

It’s a wonder. The trap was first put out last week for six days. Fourteen were trapped in total. The following week a total of 51 were trapped with more coming to the feeders. The bate used is peanut suet nuggets. The only other bird that was trapped was a female American Tree Sparrow which was set free each time. I highly recommend this trap.

I was not sure what to expect. I set it out the beginning of June under a suet feeder and bated the trap with chunks of suet. I trapped 9 starlings in 5 days, 2 of them juvenile. I started late in year, but it worked great. The starling traffic is greatly reduced in my yard.
