October 2018 we discovered an infestation of Yellow Jackets in the ceiling area above our finished and occupied walk out basement. The ceilings are finished with acoustic ceiling tile. No bees were entering the apartment, some were trapped in a bathroom ceiling light fixture. We sealed the outside access when we found their outside entry point. Within a few days of sealing the entry there was no more activity. We are concerned that there may be a female(s) overwintering in the ceiling. What are your recommendations?
A great product to use in the ceiling void would be an insecticide dust. Tempo 1% Dust is the most popular choice for flying stinging insects. You would apply it into voids, cracks, and crevices using a hand duster like the B&G Bulb Duster 1150. Dust has long residual and is picked up easily by these insects with the tiny hairs on their bodies.
