What did we do wrong with applying Mojave?

We sprayed Mojave to our sloped driveway early Saturday morning. We received 1 inch of rain on the following Tuesday. We were saddened to see that the product leached from the driveway down to the back yard where the water drained. An area of approx. 500 sq ft. I thought enough time had passed so it shouldn't have leached? Should have we lightly watered it in after we applied it?

Answer:

We are sorry to hear that, the product does need to be watered in after application and if the area received no water until that rain, that is what caused the leaching.  The label for Mojave does state the following: If the soil is not moist before treatment, Mojave 70 EG should be incorporated into the soil to a depth of 4 to 6 inches using a rototiller or disc. Rainfall or irrigation of 1 inch will also provide adequate incorporation. DO NOT allow treated soil to wash or move from treated areas into untreated areas.  You want to be sure that you are not applying in any way where there would be direct contact, overspray, runoff, or close movement to desirable plants as it can leach in the soil and kill desirable vegetation as it is a vegetation managment product.
