What is the recommended rate and best time to apply Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide in Central Maryland on a Tall Fescue Lawn?

Answer:

For best results, Crabgrass Control Plus 0 - 0 - 7 with 0.37% Prodiamine Herbicide should be applied prior to weed germination in late fall and early spring. Per the product label, the rate for Tall Fescue is 2.7lbs per 1000 sq ft with a maximum of 9.3lbs per 1000 sq ft total for the year. This can be applied as a single application at the maximum per year rate (9.3lbs per 1000 sq ft) or in sequential applications at the 2.7lbs per 1000 sq ft rate to control weeds germinating throughout the year.
For summer weeds including crabgrass, applications in early spring when soil temps are just under 55 degrees are best for optimum weed control. For winter weeds, applications in late fall when soil temps drop to 70 degrees and continue to drop are recommended.  Please view our Cool Season Lawn Care Calendar for general timing recommendations or contact your Master Gardener with the County Extension Office for exact timing recommendations in your area.
