I hand tilled the dirt 2-3 inches with a shovel.
According to the manufacturer, you do NOT want to compact or roll the area before putting down Grotrax Big Roll. Once you have tilled the soil 2-3 inches you want the soil to be loose so the roots can get down and germinate. Also, make sure that the treatment area is free of vegetation including old roots, old grass, and large rocks. Once you apply the product be sure the initial application is very well saturated. Be sure to water 2 to 3 times a day to keep Grotrax wet until the new seeds start to grow and grass blades have reached 3 inches tall, at that point it is ok to mow.
