Will Permethrin SFR 36.8% help treat borers on my dogwood trees? Trimming limbs up to 6" in diameter and bark is coming off the trees.

Answer:

Permethrin SFR 36.8% is labeled for many types of borers and can be used on ornamental trees. For Dogwood Borers listed on page 39 of the product label, the recommended rate is 1 to 2 quarts per 100 gallons (0.32 to 0.64 fl oz per gallon / 3.2 to 6.4 fl oz per 10 gallons of water). Apply to the lower branches and trunks prior to adult emergence. Thorough coverage of bark is required for control.  Please review the product label for mix rates and application instructions.  Adult emergence varies according to pest species, host tree, environmental conditions and geographic location, your local Cooperative Extension Office would be a good resource to find out the best time for applications.
