Will Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide kill bougainvillea?

I bought a home with large overgrown bougainvillea plants, want to remove

Answer:

Tordon RTU Specialty Herbicide does not list list bougainvillea as one of the woody plants it will control however the product label mentions in the Susceptible Plants Section on page 3 that even the smallest amount of spray drift even if not visible could injury broadleaf plants.  Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer contains Triclopyr which is known to be effective on harder to kill vines when applied as a stump treatment. Glyphosate would be another option for stump treatments.  For stump treatments, start by cutting the vine branches off the trunk and discard branches onto a tarp. As you get closer to the ground, use loppers or a pruning saw to cut the trunk 2-3 inches above the ground. Apply Fertilome Brush Killer and Stump Killer undiluted directly to the freshly cut stump using a paintbrush or sprayer. You will want to check the stump every few weeks for new growth and reapply the herbicide as necessary.  Please view the full product label for more information.
