Boring insect in Japanese Maple tree
I have small boring holes in sections of my 30 year old Japanese Maple. Can I use Zylam Liquid Systemic to kill boring beetles on Japanese Maples?

Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide is labeled to treat for a variety of boring insects, we recommend getting in touch with your local extension office to get a positive ID to ensure this would the right product for your needs.  Most beetles are portected from systemically applied applications as they do not bore into the part of the tree that absorbs the product.

    Q
Does Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide address pine bark beetles? If so, would it stop further stem deterioration from trees already hit?
    A

Zylam Liquid Systemic Insecticide is not labelled for bark beetles so we would not recommend it. Bark beetles are hard to control once they have infested trees, unfortunately. We suggest spraying the trunk and low branches of susceptible trees with an insecticide such as Permethrin SFR as a preventative treatment. For any trees that may be infested, you should trim infested branches and burn them or bag them for disposal.
